I wrote section 230 to protect user speech, not a company's own speech. I've long said AI chatbot outputs are not protected by 230 and that it is not a close call. Given that the Trump administration is going to the mat to protect pedophiles, states should step in to hold Musk and X accountable.
I am not a Section 230 expert but being that Twitter is creating and publishing these photos I wonder if they actually have any civil legal protection? @kenwhite.bsky.social ? @akivamcohen.bsky.social ?
What X is allowing Grok to do is unlawful or regulatory-illegal in multiple jurisdictions, creates clear DSA violations, and continues despite regulator scrutiny. The images do not need to be pornographic, non-consensual sexualised or intimate depictions are enough.

The unraveling continues.

It’s increasingly looking like the only result of Trump’s attack on Venezuela will be to have destroyed the US’ reputation across the world.

Everyone claims the US is a 'pariah' now that Trump is in power and not bothering with the white hood for empire anymore, and yet the rest of the world' governments seem to be lining up to bend the knee to prop up their imperial supremacy.
This is just as significant as Maduro’s seizure. The inability of governments to collect tax from multinational companies is a key factor in the relative poverty of the Global South. Trump’s USA has gained extraordinary exemption from a scheme to mitigate it.

The “freedom of speech” argument here is extremely confused and also an absolute gift to the government’s opponents should it ever stop using X (which even purely for pragmatic reasons, it should have done months ago, as its messaging there just isn’t working and is a waste of resources).
The government minister says she believes in using X "because of freedom of speech". (There are many platforms - 4chan, Stormfront - which it does not use).

The government is being asked to
(i) uphold the law
(ii) undertake a good faith review of its own guidelines for govt communications

So @drnajimagi.bsky.social and I (mostly Juliette) wrote this on the state of the UN and global military violence

Venezuela, Gaza, Ukraine: is the UN failing?
Should we push for a better UN that doesn’t reward the powerful by making them unaccountable? Absolutely. Should we scrap it altogether? No.

Darren Jones saying repeatedly the Labour Government won't comment on a hypothetical.

It's not hypothetical - Trump is saying very loudly repeatedly what he's done and boasting about it.

And yet the UK Government won't even say it's a breach of international rules. Shameful.

the big GenAI companies really need to figure out that they’re merely at the beginning of an absolutely historic-level PR disaster
also, if i were advising, say, anthropic, i would tell them to draw extremely broad and aggressive marketing and messaging distinctions between the CSAM hate machine (xAI), the suicide machine (openAI) and the clippy-but-worse machine (copilot), and focus on being the buddhist codemonkey machine
the other tech companies working on AI will — not now, but eventually — regret having chosen not to draw a bright line between what musk is doing and what they're doing, and google, of all companies, really should know this firsthand, given how much tesla's self-driving informs opinions about waymo

Quick update for US media: the story is not about Maduro or what’s going on in Venezuela. It’s about the massive rupture in US history where the country now stands for invading and occupying any country it likes.

Trump in his press conference made it very clear this is a new age. Did you miss that?
