not sure a bio thing’s always necessary or even wise but I’m bored so here’s a summary of already shared info. I’m a staff carpenter at large institution; have a BA in philosophy and MS in a healthcare adjacent field but that didn’t work out so I rebuild Jeffersonian roofs and renovate offices now.

I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.
So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.
Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

Voters Ousted This Pennsylvania Sheriff After He Signed Up to Collaborate With ICE - Bolts
A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

they still won’t let me near the lathe of heaven (no trespassed me, can you believe it!), but the last few test runs of the functional replica I’m building in a shed out back have been really quite promising

It should be stated that none of the people Trump just pardoned were convicted of federal crimes, the only kind he can pardon.

The Supreme Court did grant review of one case today, Watson v. Republican National Committee, and it's a big one over state laws allowing the counting of ballots cast by Election Day but received after Election Day.
Here's the docket: www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docke...

1. Kaine and Warner operate as a single governing unit due to their relationship;
2. Kaine has hinted he won't run in 2030. Expect a hand-picked replacement (like Rep. McClellan) from the Kaine patronage lineage.
3. Primary Mark Warner. The case against him is book length.

friendly reminders this morning that being pissed off and disappointed is not an excuse for doomer shit, and that state and national electoral politics, while unfortunately impactful beyond its current worth, is not the only or best way of political mobilization

In a normal democracy, a total collapse of party leadership would result in an no-confidence vote and immediate snap elections to find leaders who can lead

Spent some time in DC this weekend with federal worker friends and their colleagues. They’re all missing paychecks and feeling it. And: every single one of them wanted to see Dems hold the line.
"We don't want people to go hungry or miss another paycheck. But we *are* okay with them dying a little more slowly, without healthcare."
This is so bleak.

Indivisible going from Nancy Pelosi fanclubs in 2017 to an actual Tea Party type opposition in 2026 would rule honestly, LFG
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
