The fact that it at least anecdotally seems to be a semi-regular practice to tell white people a minority got the job in order to soften the blow of rejection really should put the elite woke panic into perspective.

Rob Reiner was one of the key people behind the effort to go to court to overturn California's anti-marriage equality Proposition 8 when it passed in 2008.

Working with Chad Griffin, they founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights and got Ted Olson and David Boies to team up to fight Prop 8.

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

The entire imperial presidency, created by both parties since WWII, needs to go. Every single one of these magic "national emergency" clauses must be scrapped.

One thing Trump is good at is demonstrating which bits of law and burearucracy need fundamental overhauls. "If I want to do something illegal I just declare an emergency" might need a look.

The US stopped have a north and a south divide and instead has an urban and rural/exurban one, and the rural areas, regardless of where they're located, took on the culture of the rural south. We universalized the worst America has to offer.

Everyone in academia knows👇. By the time everyone starts speaking out loud, it will be too late. Programs will close. Tens of thousands of staff will be laid off. Entire fields of study at major universities will simply disappear. And “just do lawsuits” will look shamefully pathetic as a response.
The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

No one wants to hear this message. Not our university leaders. Not the media (I & colleagues have tried & failed repeatedly). Everyone just wants to pretend doing the definition of insanity is going to work this time. Sleepwalking into epic disaster.

One reason it’s so hard to explain these problems to people who are not academics, again, is bc our university leaders have been <totally absent> from the public square. They haven’t even bothered to try & communicate, loudly, publicly, & collectively, the stakes to voters. It’s maddening.
