As the Trump admin predictably rolls the National Guard into the streets and a Republican army of enablers roots for military violence against Americans, some words on why, and the way forward.
The Tyranny of Tiny Men
The way to fight back is not to give up on anyone. The way forward is to stand with each other, for each other.

it’s crazy how obvious it is that donald trump has been actively part of the epstein coverup for half a decade now and he’s just still the president
Julie K. Brown is a reporter for the Miami Herald who did groundbreaking work on Epstein beginning in 2018, including groundbreaking work on the disgusting coverup by Alex Acosta.

Her travel itinerary was released with some of the Epstein files. It appears the DOJ was monitoring her in 2019.

RFK Jr and Trump rolled back a Biden regulation that required nursing care homes that received Medicare and Medicaid payments to have a registered nurse on site 24/7.

Effective January 1st — those rules no longer apply.

So choose carefully when making medical care decisions for your loved ones.

Speaking of Rod Serling.... he was dropping bars here... about Black soldiers who were fighting for this country only to come back home and get treated as if they weren't even citizens.... this is an example of a true ally.

He used his voice & his art to speak up & speak out.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this was an almost exact plot-point from the second Blade Runner. And it was not a positive.
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

A nice thread in which an actual expert patiently explains why the Secretary of Health and Human Service is not simply a liar, but an especially stupid one.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

You will be not at all shocked to know that RFK Jr is a complete grifter whose only real goal is self-aggrandizement. But Republicans don’t care, so they put him in charge of public health and will find a way to blame the body count on the rest of us.

This comes across like you don’t understand that when people are unavailable you just … wait. Instead of doing all this gen AI shit and polluting the earth. Your insistence on using it suggests that you don’t have solid interpersonal relationships. That’s unsettling.
Re people: I have people who I can have valuable discussions with but whose availability is limited. AI also allows useful affordances that humans don't (and vice versa) so they aren't interchangeable.

I wasn’t going to read this—I know what Navarro is—but I’m glad I clicked. There are worse people in the world, but never has there been such a crushingly devastating profile. Here is the true, puny, pathetic essence of Trumpism.

This is the world Justice Kavanaugh sanctioned in his foolish & unnecessary concurring opinion to the Court’s order in Noem v Vasquez Perdomo. His hopes of cleaning up that blunder with a plaintive footnote in last week’s concurring opinion in Trump v. Illinois, demonstrates his staggering naïveté.

Yep, being asked by my mom over the holidays if I would “Move to a foreign country if things get bad here” was a little disconcerting.

I have changed my mind. The central problems aren't corruption, inequality, and rising militant right wing extremism.

The real issue is that we won't meet in the middle. Please pay me.
