nothing i can say about these people is crueler than their behavior toward each other
if this was me at a public event mourning my spouse who was violently murdered my kids would either have me committed or never speak to me again

Nothing to see here, just a right wing hyper-nationalist government going to their party’s youth event sponsored by a group with a martyred leader they’ve pledged to avenge, recruiting people to join their masked police force devoted to removing auslanders from ze homeland.

I can *100% assure you* that if this report found that trans people & "wokeness" tanked the Harris campaign, the DNC would release it in a heartbeat
BREAKING: The Democratic National Committee will NOT release its long-awaited autopsy on Trump's 2024 win. The report is completed but Dem leaders decided it could distract from their winning streak, so it will remain secret. Not good.

Dem Leaders Decide to Bury Damning Report on Why Trump Won in 2024
The Democratic National Committee has completed its long-awaited analysis on what went wrong in the 2024 campaign. But in a move that will attract intense criticism, it’s keeping the findings secret.

nothing condemns Our Times more than the fact we appear to have *mostly democratically* elevated to power some of the most stupid assholes who have ever lived.

something is wrong with a country and system that ferrets out its most undisputedly horrible citizens and then gives them nuclear codes

They don't want to be creators, they want to have what they perceive as the cultural status that creators have, without doing the work for it.

A lot of them also think we make a lot more money than we do, which they want as well.

This might seem confusing or even hypocritical, but you have to understand that one of these people is much more famous than the other one. I mean, what are you going to do? Powerless, the poor loves.
So, just to confirm, the BBC can’t keep Robin Ince on the air because his trans allyship brings the organisation into disrepute, but they can keep David Walliams, who performed Nazi salutes at the recording of this very show, on the air despite him being predatory towards women. Cool. Very normal.

saw someone say the next dem administration should learn from trump & simply enact their agenda without thought to norms or procedure, & i hate to break it to that person but the dems already do exactly what they want with power. they don't try to do things & fail, they try to do nothing & succeed

i get why they'd redact evidence of trump in the files before they're released, but going through and deleting the files with pictures of trump that they accidentally forgot to redact post-release is just absurd. we already know they were friends and spent time together. what are you doing

If the industry rumours are true about Walliams using ghost writers, a sane publisher would sign the (clearly very successful and competent) back room hack(s) up, come clean, throw the same publicity machine behind them, and have a fantastic line of popular kids’ books ready for next year.

I know the Kennedy Center stuff is just beltway nonsense that doesn't really matter in the long term compared to, you know, the human lives being killed by this administration

But it is still very funny to me that his illegal renaming makes it sound like he died.
I’m currently outside of the Kennedy Center:

democrats are very capable of fighting to defend their core principals, like 'insider trading'
A discharge petition to advance a policy ending congressional stock trading was finally moving forward when Hakeem Jeffries sucked the air out of it. By proposing his own bill that no Republican would sign, Jeffries effectively made consensus impossible. From @ddayen.bsky.social:
Jeffries Undercuts Congressional Stock Trading Ban - The American Prospect
A bipartisan solution was gaining momentum, but the House Democratic leader just issued his own bill that will prevent consensus.

I know people are rightly going to be worried about child health, their own health. But we also can't afford this. Like, John Hopkins did an estimate (next link) and every measles case during outbreaks cost on average $43,000 to treat. That kid who got tetanus cost $1 million dollars to treat /1

things are so so so so so much worse for the lower half in this economy because the things exploding the most (healthcare, housing, food, heating) are the most inflexible parts of a small budget, and they're already maxxed out and spending very efficiently, so any slip is loss of something material
people for whom housing is 15% of income just literally cant imagine the world of people whose housing is 50% of income, and everyone needs 2k calories a day no matter the wealth. cpi just isnt really that meaningful in this discussion
