I’m more a chatter-with & connector-of people than a poster. I’ll remember years later that you once said you like pancakes & tag you in a recipe I just found.

I am increasingly of the opinion that people who change menus and look and feel of computer software just so that you know it's a new version should be personally forced to play tech support to my mother for five months.

Sure, it's interesting to speculate who the next Minister of Finance might be. But it's also interesting to consider who might win a bye-election, considering some of the candidates last time out.... www.independent.ie/irish-news/e...

A lot of manual labour recently for me, combined with cold weather, means very dry skin on my hands, which is affecting my puzzle completion times as my finger does not always register on touch screens.

So Harvard is keeping this guy, but Claudine Gay had to step down over ginned up plagiarism accusations and bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism.

Got it.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

I'm seeing a lot of political posts with images & no alt-text. A reminder: alt-text makes your post accessible to blind & low-vision users, & as disabled people are some of those most regularly & viciously targeted by this administration, they deserve & need to be included & informed in activism.

I've lived in some houses that have been converted into multiple flats and I cant stress how dysfunctional and uncomfortable they are. Forgetting issues like space and privacy, you don't just double or triple the strain on a building's water, sewerage and energy needs without issues. #spéirgorm
The Housing Minister's reported plan to push for older people to split their homes into flats in an effort to boost supply has been defended by the Minister for Older People.

'What we’re looking to provide is choice for older people,' Kieran O'Donnell said today jrnl.ie/6876584

This is deeply depressing. I’d thought it might apply in manufacturing, like SPuMonI that’s used in pharma production for quality control (the kind of sensible thing specifically trained AI is really good at). AI’s been used in recommendation engines for years. But marketing AI output for cosmetics?
I guess I already knew beauty ads were fakey but now they’re fakey-fakey at scale.

I actually do think it may be important to explain to men that there is a difference between their attractions/desires and their actions. You can have all kinds of fucked up stuff in your head and it does no one any harm. The second you act in a way that crosses someone's boundaries you're shit.

Erm....I remember the concentration camps were full of jewellery and personal things stolen. This is one bloody awful look for Labour. Who's advising them? An ouija board of Goebbles?
This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

There is no debate here. If you want to get out of providing internationally recognised fundamental human rights to all humans in your jurisdiction, you are being authoritarian at best and fascist at worst, and you are not fit to govern.

In today's world intolerance is growing at an extreme pace. So it's more important than ever to stand up for tolerance and humanity.
Stand up for one another, stand up against hate, bullying and bigotry. Even if you stand alone sometimes

People see Jesus Christ in slices of toast, tea stains, patterns in carpet and damp stains on walls. We are not psychologically prepared to show the required caution in the face of computer software that can mimic human language. People are already surrendering reason to the Jesus in the toast.

All the objective studies show that for roles where remote is possible, productivity goes up or is unaffected and there is no drop in team building or innovation. I enjoy IRL contacts on my on-site days, besides needing them to fulfil my role, but I wouldn’t begrudge suitable roles fully remote.
