If you, like me, are fascinated by everything to do with Section 28, then you, like me, will enjoy Paul Baker's 2022 book Outrageous!, which is a great resource on both the legal/political, and the community, sides of the story.
Man, I was all excited going to read the Hansard report from the day the lesbians abseiled into the House of Lords to protest Section 28, but all it says is "[Interruption]" 😂

My fellow trans people who write theory and articles, I am going to say this with love, but also bluntly. You need to cite your sources properly and in your theory books include a works cited/bibliography. It doesn't "make it less accessible for the average reader"-

The playbook is wearyingly similar.
Underfund them. Hold them (piously) to the highest standards. Pillory them for all errors. And then co-opt, or neuter, them. 1/2

(Don't read this, it's horrible) but maybe think about how saying things like 'becoming non-binary by getting a haircut' is the same line as the most vitriolic transphobes use - it's a quote from this piece - and stop using it.

Having relatives who fought for & against the British army at roughly the same time (one died at the Somme & another was in the IRA during the war of independence), the poppy-mania has always made me uncomfortable.

And there’s a huge distance between volunteers betrayed by politicians & generals in WWI or conscripts in WW2, civilians essentially, who used to be the main focus of ‘never again’ remembrance, & the professional armies that are now at the centre of the compulsory militarised jingoism
