Cyclists may be right to run stop signs and red lights. Here’s why
Should cyclists be allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs? This rule from Idaho is divisive, but the scientific data is surprising.

Canada is "20 years behind" on flood planning, experts say, and maps meant to show at-risk areas are severely outdated. That poses harm to people and property, but plans to update flood maps often anger homeowners, who worry about insurance costs and property values. thenarwhal.ca/outdated-flo...

I so enjoy scrolling through my BlueSky feed. It goes more or less like
- anti-capitalist rant
- news article (climate change)
- gay porn
- friend's post about their day
- news article (war, pick one)
- Muppets
- pretty picture of trees
- pithy commentary
- news article (health)
... and so on.

SEEKING PARTICIPANTS

For their MA thesis, my advisee is conducting an oral history on family members of people living with HIV/AIDS in the 1980s-90s. They are seeking folks to interview. See the flyer for details.

Wondering if folks can share this with their networks. Thank you!

I cannot keep up with the dystopia. Eight wrongful death suits against OpenAI so far. And those are just the ones where a person committed murder or suicide AND people figured out ChatGPT was a factor in it AND decided to file suit. Meaning the overall list of tragedies has to be *much* longer.

Just had a weirdly specific little memory. In a past lifetime, I worked at the front desk of a YMCA. I made a point to remember the members' names and details so I could make pleasant conversation as they arrived. Some were friendly, some less so. One particular gentleman was a bit of a grump. ...

#manicure #extremityfetish I've been leaning hard into green lately and wanted something different this week. So I revisited an old fave, a grey jelly polish with rainbow flakies called Zzzzap! from a fabulous now-defunct Toronto indie brand, Canvas (RIP!).

The tension between "horrible things are happening and we should not be silent" and "WTF could I possibly say that would add anything useful to the conversation" continues to rise.

Biked across town today to help a friend, then back, into a nasty headwind. The biking kept my body warm despite the minus-10-feels-like-minus-20 weather (WTF Toronto! You are not Montreal, cut it out!). But my lungs are NOT pleased with me. I feel beat up on the insides!

This is very cool. I just wish the article explained it better. How do we go from repressing a tooth-growth inhibitor to actually regenerating a missing tooth? There seem to be some steps missing here. Though maybe that's the part they don't know yet?

This thread is amazing.
Mine: a neurosurgeon told me my spinal discs were really juicy. I kept a pic of the MRI that showed this, and I guess my partner at the time did too, and for some reason showed their chiropractor, who liked my juicy discs so much he wanted to put the pic on his office wall 🤣
