As a freelancer sometimes I just catch a wave of energy and ride it til I check off all the deadlines and then I feel very virtuous and good. I don't exactly regret doing this tonight. But also holy mother of gawd am I gonna be short on sleep on this lovely Monday, I have a meeting in three hours.

I'm selling some shoes and a couple of buyers are in the States, so I'm having to navigate the new shipping process. You have to download an app that uses AI to calculate the duty to prepay, get a code once you've paid, and give that code to the post office to actually ship. OMFG it's SUCH a pain.

Current bouquet! I don't usually gravitate toward roses, but the light orange colour of these really appealed. My space has a lot of green so orange is always a contrasting pop of colour, and these reminded me of Fanta or fresh-squeezed juice.

#manicure #extremityfetish This week, I branched out. Instead of a Mooncat polish, I chose one from Holo Taco, another indie brand. They make lovely stuff, but most of it is just doing one thing at a time, whereas Mooncat almost always has more going on in a given formula.

Inspired by a recent @cheesesexdeath.bsky.social post, I put together a little cheese snack for a small gathering today: a soft and scoopable Château de Bourgogne, mixed root vegetable chips and maple-onion jam. It was rich and delicious! Very autumnal.

I have become aware that a point arrives every autumn that I can only call Hibernation Time. Body just wants to sleep and be cozy. No exercise. No work. No nothing but sleeping, with occasional foods. Realistically I have to push back on it, as shit must get done, but it is SO HARD.

This is wild. I don't remember the mechanics of how I was taught to read. But it definitely wasn't three-cueing. This method seems totally absurd to me. Do teachers expect that kids will just read picture books their whole lives? (The whole thread is worth a read.)

Oof. Just had a bit of a gut punch, in a sort of amorphous way.

When I was 25 or so, at a conference, I met a gorgeous, gallant, gentle butch who was then in her mid-50s. We struck up a strangely intense romantic connection and sustained it in a very old-fashioned way via actual letters. ...

Stunning photos in this thread of comments, wow. Can't see a thing from here in Toronto, the sky is too cloudy, but it's amazing to see what's happening above the clouds.
I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

"Risk irrelevance" OMFG. Do they mean the "transformative potential" for AI to make it really easy for students to not learn anything and turn in garbage papers? That kind of transformation?
It's gonna be WILD when people who never actually learned anything in school try to run the world...

#manicure #extremityfetish I didn't know, when I chose a thermal polish for this week (Twilight Sonata by Mooncat), that I'd have such a convenient opportunity to show off its warm/cold colour-changing properties. 😑 Anyway, here it is: deep royal blue when cold, purple when warm, & a fun transition.

I bought some pumpkin donuts at Downey's Pumpkin Farm a week and a half ago. Went stale. I decided to try a thing: I sliced one, toasted it, crumbled it over vanilla Hagen Dasz, and added crumbled pecans and pumpkin seeds. Not bad at all! Next time I'll add a shake of cinnamon and nutmeg. 😋
