Anyhow, @charlotte2153.bsky.social, if you want to talk, my DMs are open, or if you want to talk here I will try to keep my friends to contributing in good faith (if potentially with justified anger and grief). Please tell me what the plan is, or the current actions are. We need the gvmt on side.

I want to know what the government of the country I now live in is doing to keep the children of my community safe, because this society is permeated through with transphobia. It's quicksand. And I'd love a neat solution, but there isn't one - including banning phones. @charlotte2153.bsky.social

I was a very isolated kid, like Brianna, and my internet connection kept me from being suicidal at times. This was 20+ years ago. I don't think my bullies learned to call me a dyke from their Nokia 3310s. I think they learned it from immersion in a homophobic society. @charlotte2153.bsky.social

What motivates people to be transphobic is immersion in the kind of society that legitimises and breeds transphobia. It's on tv, in the papers, in social discourse. Removing a phone in school means kids will see it on laptops. Removing laptops means they'll see it on tv. @charlotte2153.bsky.social

I appreciate & hold space for the anger being expressed by the community & I will not dismiss it, but I would like to understand where you're coming from @charlotte2153.bsky.social because Brianna wasn't killed by a phone or by media that was only accessible through phones. She was killed by people.

Harris looks like he's attending his own funeral.

I got mine at about 20 so I've seen my grown face with and without them, and I look so much better with. You're right - totally face-naked without.

Alex's work is really interesting, he's worth looking up for your migration unit!

It is one of my more random but firm opinions that most people look better with glasses. They frame the face.

People are not fearful of Farage in Downing Street because they worry that he wouldn't competently manage the bureaucracy or grasp the finer points of macroeconomics. They worry because he is palpably a nasty piece of work who would govern actively against their interests, even their safety.

This is literally what the slogan "nothing about us without us" originated out of in the disabled people's movement and I think trans rights organising can sometimes miss our connections to the social harms of medical authority and disablement.
