Ok, early morning boiler check after the overnight worry of smelling gas briefly - it's safe, we can use it!

Our wonderful gas safety engineer kindly fit us in before his holiday!

Hopefully this will be the start of a much needed positive trend.

Next stop: job application by the end of the day!

My gut hunch: Kendzoir was probably not banned by a human for any reason, but by an automated computer process by accident, and BlueSky doesn't want to admit this mistake nor to open up that automation for debate. It wants the power to let computers do this w/o expending $ for human review.

In my almost 20 years as a lawyer, as a leader, as a department head, as an executive...the people I have worked with who are the biggest gossips, who are the most emotional, and who are the most conflict-averse are men. And the women are the ones who end up cleaning up that mess as a result.

Good thread, and I will add that men DO NOT LIKE IT when women say "hey, you fucked up," and to the extent that women tend to soften the blow with indirectness, it's because men feel like their honor is insulted if they have to take feedback from women.

I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...
Andrews: Gossiping. Inability to deal with conflict directly and kind of suppressing conflict. An aversion to directness, which, naturally, in a workplace, is a big problem because you need to be able to give direct feedback to people, including negative feedback.

Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

He'll make a great mayor
In February, 7-year-old Dolma Naadhun was crossing the intersection of Newtown Road and 45th Street in Astoria with her mother and sister when the driver of a 2021 Ford Explorer blew through a stop sign, striking and killing Dolma. One month later, New York City Department of Transportation commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez visited the crash site with other officials, met with community members demanding a traffic signal be installed, and promised to make changes to the street - including "daylighting" the intersection using curb extensions and plastic bollards. State assemblymember Zohran Mamdani also visited the scene that day and realized that something else needed to change. "When you take a step back and think about traffic violence in New York City," he said, "you start to understand that this is a systemic issue that is incentivized by the policies that we have in place with regard to the design of our streets and what kind of vehicles we allow to be on our roads." Whether a driver runs a stop sign or a red light, statistically, certain cars - namely, bigger SUVs and trucks - are more likely to kill a 7-year-old. This is why Mamdani is co- introducing legislation for a weight-based vehicle-registration fee intended to discourage people from purchasing heavier vehicles. "The car industry is pushing the sale of heavier and larger vehicles," he says. "The state has to make it clear that these types of vehicles come with a certain kind of cost." soar above adult shoulders. This means the neighborhoods most impacted by large vehicles are likely to see the biggest changes. And that might be the most important part of the legislation, says Mamdani. "This is an initiative to make our streets safer for our children," he says. "And we are making sure a significant portion of this funding goes toward creating the very streetscapes that we know will save their lives."

For me, the ability to learn from and occasionally even argue with folks who are knowledgeable and care about a niche topic, and see others who are interested weigh in, all without the risk of IRL fisticuffs is.. maybe not quite, but almost, the whole point of this particular social media format.
