Ok, early morning boiler check after the overnight worry of smelling gas briefly - it's safe, we can use it!

Our wonderful gas safety engineer kindly fit us in before his holiday!

Hopefully this will be the start of a much needed positive trend.

Next stop: job application by the end of the day!

At least Twitter said "Here's an instance of how you violated the T&S - do you want to appeal?" BlueSky just bans you without warning, specifics or any right TO appeal, it seems...and the most nefarious thing it, I gather, is that's it's just algos.

My gut hunch: Kendzoir was probably not banned by a human for any reason, but by an automated computer process by accident, and BlueSky doesn't want to admit this mistake nor to open up that automation for debate. It wants the power to let computers do this w/o expending $ for human review.
@bsky.app last week my DMs were cut off. Moderation said I could not be trusted.

Hours later, you said it was a mistake.

Then you cut off them off again—but said it was my fault, tho wouldn't explain (before turning them back on.)

Maybe @sarahkendzior.bsky.social's ban is a mistake, too?

People fleeing war and persecution are ready and able to contribute to our society.

The problem is... they're not allowed.

Rather than shipping them off to army barracks all over the country, it's time to let asylum seekers work.

Was lovely to speak with Dr Uy Hoang - who has uploaded over 300,000 photos of the UK's canals and rivers to Google Street View and is ninth in the world by number of uploads - for this piece. www.londonworld.com/news/people/...
I’m mapping Britain for Google on foot - I’ve taken 300,000 snaps over 10 years
Watch as Dr Uy Hoang from London discusses how he’s mapping Britain's waterways, having covered at least 75% of the nation's canal network so far.

My biggest warning about using LLMs is that you can't trust it to tell you about anything that you're not competent to check.
9) don't use it for research on anything where you do not have the skills to do that checking
10) my experience is when I use it for research on a subject I know pretty well, what it comes up with is:
50% totally misunderstood the assignment
30% I had these already
20% oh, huh, maybe interesting

I've had to explain this oh so many times. We don't get routines.

Every single time is *JUST AS DIFFICULT* as the first time. Always. FOREVER.
They just become more familiar, so I dont have to dedicate as much thought to the steps.

Every single time I've brushed or flossed my teeth, for 37 years, it's been a series of conscious actions that require thought and willpower.

Nothing gets to be automatic.

Good thread, and I will add that men DO NOT LIKE IT when women say "hey, you fucked up," and to the extent that women tend to soften the blow with indirectness, it's because men feel like their honor is insulted if they have to take feedback from women.
I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...

Just read the below on Zohran Mamdani, NY's new mayor who actually understands the increasing risks and danger of SUVs and other larger cars on our streets. Fascinating.

Thanks @timmorton2.bsky.social

whatever you think of Spanberger, the fact that her opponent ran a campaign based almost entirely on transphobia and is on track to eat shit in the biggest blowout the state has seen since 2009 is unambiguously a huge win
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didn’t hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.

I've been thinking about this post a lot, and I'm trying to recall the last time a person who started arguing with me on social media was actually knowledgeable about the niche topic.

Because I'm a woman, it's like 85% clueless men explaining my job to me. Incorrectly.
For me, the ability to learn from and occasionally even argue with folks who are knowledgeable and care about a niche topic, and see others who are interested weigh in, all without the risk of IRL fisticuffs is.. maybe not quite, but almost, the whole point of this particular social media format.
