Your periodic reminder as we go into the holiday season that the only safe amount of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 is zero.

Quality masks work to prevent the spread of airborne illness, yet everyone up to and including medical professionals wearing them daily for decades somehow forgot this?

Where "nuanced" means "stick to our guns and fight this pandemic? we can't be arsed"
TFW you give a talk about rewriting history in which you, wait for it, rewrite some history.

Dr. Henry claims she's always been nuanced about value of masks and about how COVID is spread, but the record says otherwise.

It's unusual to see a ratio that is unanimously hostile, but this program is adept at running with terrible takes to drive up engagement.
I see some people are upset with our topic Checkup Sunday. With President Trump repeating his "51st state" comments, we feel it is important to talk about. Even better, for Americans to hear our voices via the NPR stations that will be simulcasting.

Hence the push for Project 2019 at all costs (and here we are)
A classic materialist reading here is that 2020 gave American tech executives their first real taste of worker militancy, and it scared them so much that they decided they needed to move into the political sphere to crush it.
delusional, paranoid, or just weapons-grade cynicism?

If Canada still had a functioning press this would get the occasional mention but nah, the corporate news organs are beholden to the oligarchs and the CBC is terrified of his threats to destroy it.
Pierre Poilievre has been in politics for 20 years, he's written 0 legislation; has one of the highest pensions in government. He's voted against the environment & climate nearly 400 times, derailed legislation to benefit workers, and voted against affordable housing initiatives.

NEW: When the 1st Trump admin proposed a rule allowing homeless shelters to turn trans people away, congressional Dems were furious

Now, it’s unclear how much Dems would push back if it happens again

It’s “a complicated issue,” one senior House Dem told me

the "esc" key on a keyboard is a holdover from early-'90s personal computers. on some models it would dispense a can of escargot out of one of the unused drive bays. they put it in the corner so you wouldn't press it by accident because you only got three of them. i pushed it once and got grounded

Octavia Butler couldn’t see the future. She saw what was happening in front of her and, in addition to studying the past, was able to imagine where it would lead. It’s important to tell the truth about her because mythologizing her is a disservice to her legacy.

Dont y'all remember the early stage of the pandemic when it was waaaaay too risky to go grocery shopping but it was A-OK to get some gigworker to do it for you?
The fact that Amazon workers were told to keep working in these conditions is unforgivable.

I don't know if this is an autistic-brain thing, but one of the thing that really freaks me out about the current reality is that I really deeply and fundamentally don't understand why anyone would ever choose cruelty over problem-solving.

We are being forced to manuver in a society where one party is actively working to break society and reality at fundamental levels while the other is more interested in status quo neoliberal theater over material change at all costs As it would mean taking risks and angering donors. We are on our own
It feels like society is cracking open and we’re going to be asked to make serious, meaningful changes by our circumstances and we will have a leadership class actively trained for decades to avoid the topic altogether

One of things that’s exceptional about America is its ability to believe that it is exceptional and not a country built on its own proto fascist Mythos and white power soul.
American exceptionalism is and has been a social psychological valve to relieve the cognitive dissonance of Americas sins.
Something I've noticed about Americans, with all due respect, is that you seem to have trouble accepting that your country is not special, regardless of the context

Hope you’re getting the picture. This is what it is coming for all of America now. No more elections that actually matter only one party rule and pseudo democracy.

Well, since you asked, Democrats could be fighting for anyone of the myriad of problematic legislation and anti-trans laws being enacted instead of working with the people trying to enact them. Democrats could be doing anything to work to stop the Republicans agenda instead of working with them..
And so those on here whom you describe as being pacified should do what instead? For extra credit, please explain how you know that many of us aren't doing other things.

I will forever be baffled by the Dems' lackadaisical foot-dragging with respect to J6 and Trump's other criminal activity. Decisive action was necessary and y'all took a long nap instead.
you can't expect the GOP to impeach their own president unless they face intense pressure—and that pressure would only come if the democrats had made a full court press to impeach trump within 24 hrs of J6. the fact that dem leadership didn't do that is one of the worst failures in american history
As a reminder, Pelosi and Schumer were responsible for Mitch McConnell refusing to allow articles of impeachment to come up immediately after January 6, and this is true because Republicans, as always, wholly lack agency.

“We all just need to work with the fascists so they stop being as fascists” is neoliberal cope
You can’t work with fascists you can only defy them openly and loudly with mass numbers or outright destroy them through force. Anything less ensures the end of democracy.

Polievre is unfit to govern. He should not be allowed to have it both ways, he can either be a social media shit-disturber or the Leader of the Official Opposition, not both.
Dominic Leblanc is asked about foreign interference in the Conservative leadership race.
“We have offered a highly sensitive security briefing to Mr. Poilievre, precisely so he can see the nature and scope of the threat of foreign interference in the Con Party." He declines. #cdnpoli #peipoli

One of the things they can be said about why conspiracy theories specifically fascist conspiracy theories have taken root is that society has become highly complex and complexity breeds ambiguity. Ambiguity plus the social voids created by neoliberal austerity leave room for simple narratives
