once you see it it becomes hard to avoid noticing that any time dems make a public comment about something terrible that's happened they never offer any plans to hold the people responsible accountable or to take any action to prevent it from happening again in the future
if you recognize this woman no you don't
KMBC: "A woman tried to set a fire at a South Kansas City warehouse that had been rumored as a possible ICE detention center. Earlier today, the company that owns the property confirmed it is no longer moving forward with a sale to the U.S. government."

matt taibbi obviously decided to throw his lot in with the fascists but he did help draw the public's attention to the way financial institutions were preying on us, how in a mid-sized town they'd buy up essential services like water or sewage then charge usurious prices once they had a monopoly
I face resistance from my fellow travelers whenever I say this but: if you preface your criticisms of Matt taibbi with “I used to admire his work, but”…….. go back. Read them again

what's more likely to happen is that Schumer cuts a deal with Thune where the senate fast tracks the lifetime appointment of Mathew Kacsmaryk to the Supreme Court in exchange for a partial restoration of ACA funding, funding which has the net effect of helping vulnerable Republicans

You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.

Just remember that DHS is building concentration camps, and, if you built it, they will get filled.
I’m really worried that this just means no one will care anymore, if ICE is picking up already-criminalized neighbors
February 12, 2026 at 3:17 PM
this thread cataloging just a small slice of the willful lawlessness of DHS & their limitless cruelty against the innocent, against children, against the sick, etc.

these are unforgivable crimes

likewise, any politician who isn't fighting to burn this agency to the ground is unforgivable
4. Medical malpractice. Here’s why I say stopping this detention-to Texas pipeline is life of death.

UK media is a mess but it's striking to me that it's a top-headlines-push-notification type of story when one of their billionaires says something racist

whereas elon musk tweets stormfront level uber-racism on a daily basis & the only people who pay attention are left wing shitposters

Minister and Burnham escalate row with ‘hypocritical’ Ratcliffe over claim UK colonised by immigrants – politics live
Labour mayor of Greater Manchester joins those criticising Ratcliffe over his comments The GMB union has alos criticised Jim Ratcliffe over his comments about immigration. The union represents workers employed by Ineos, the chemicals company set up and run by Ratcliffe. Andy Prendergast, the GMB’s national secretary, said: Anyone who watches football knows the beautiful game is a shining example multiculturalism; people from across the world playing in harmony. In light of this, Radcliffe’s crass and insensitive comments just underline how out of touch and offensive he truly is. His reign at Man Utd has been marked by mass dismissals of loyal staff and chaos on the pitch. Frankly, his right to comment on UK affairs should have ended the moment he sloped off to Monaco to avoid paying his taxes. These comments go against everything for which Manchester has traditionally stood: a place where people of all races, faiths and none have pulled together over centuries to build our city and our institutions, including Manchester United FC. Calling for curbs on levels of immigration is one thing; portraying those who come here as a hostile invading force is quite another. Continue reading...

Markwayne Mullin defends "show me your papers": "If you're here legally, there's nothing to hide. Most people already are walking around with a government-issued ID, meaning your Real ID or your driver's license. If you go board a train here, you gotta show your ID."

the charitable interpretation is that dems choose not to respond so the press will focus more on the GOP's misdeeds than on dems' response

but this is an incredibly blinkered way of thinking—trump just flits from scandal to scandal & the press is never able to focus on any single one of his crimes
Sadly, this is why Democratic leaders needed to act when the iron was hot — to lead, get out on the streets, and mobilize public opinion.

It may now be that their moment has passed and the public has moved on. If so, what a shame; what a lost opportunity.
Sometimes very hard not to feel like the rest of the country has abandoned Minnesota. We STILL have ICE everywhere. Our schools, businesses, and economy are in profound crisis. But without Bovino here throwing tear gas, much of the country seems to not care at all what’s being done to us.

this is like coming home & seeing that your neighbor's house has burned down then he comes over to tell you that he didn't bother to call the fire department because he was too busy painting the kitchen & caulking the shower
Biden's first 2 years when Dems had a narrow majority in the House and a 50-50 split in the Senate (including the contrarian Manchin & Sinema) were the most legislatively successful since LBJ or perhaps FDR. GOP voters praise their party for paltry results. Dem voters complain about things not done.

i mean what the fuck, ICE is building a nationwide network of concentration camps and schumer is talking about how much he loves charlie rangel, a guy who was so corrupt that he was censured by his own party & forced out of his position as committee chair
My friend Charlie Rangel represented Harlem in Congress for 46 years.

War hero. Assistant U.S. Attorney for SDNY. Founding member of @cbc.house.gov. Tireless legislator. Mentor. And so much more.

We remember Charlie as one of the most effective lawmakers in Congress.
