i'd say the midterm-level turnout for a special election is even more ominous than the swing
December 3, 2025 at 3:18 AM
The fact this election was effectively at midterm level turnout makes it worse for republicans than any of the other ones - this may well be an accurate feeling for where the GCB is rn, and that means the House is easily dem and the Senate honestly is too, not to mention state govt positions
For additional context here, these are the relative turnout levels of each of the congressional special elections we've had this year

This race got super nationalized - relative turnout ended up being huge

But to me, that makes this the most encouraging special for Ds so far

the last year is instructive of the fact that people who pretend to be better for expediency’s sake actually are better
I hate this sort of meme.

“The only difference between the parties is whether the power to destroy human civilization rests in the hands of leaders who think gays, women, and black people should have their rights acknowledged.”

Even if true, how is Rainbow B-52 not infinitely preferable?

Now, the question I have for the Republicans is, where do you go from here. Because, the voters are already incandescently mad at you, 10mo in.

How do you think the voters are going to feel after another 12 months of this, or 3 years of this, when you have midterms or the presidential election?
The voters, after 10 months of Republican government: holy fucking shit get me outta here

Getting 7 million people to a non-violent protest is an implicit threat, among other things. If 10% of that number adopts forceful tactics as an immediate response to Trump trying to stay in office in 2029, it would be very hard for him to stay in the White House more than a few weeks.

The right has spent so long basking in performative outrage about senseless bullshit that I think they are unequipped to grasp the river of white hot moral rage that is currently coursing just under the surface of anyone who's ever had a liberal urge in their life.
look i was recently talking to a septuagenarian life long dem (who shall remain nameless) and generic lib, and she was like “i just think there should be firing squads and they should sell tickets.”

when your party tries to muscle a charismatic normie lib run by Lis Smith out of a Senate race in favor of a dead-eyed parody of a Michigan focus group your party has lost its damn mind
NEW: When Mallory McMorrow conveyed her plans to run for Senate, DSCC asked her to hold off, per 3 sources.

More calls, some staff level; same result.

Per one source: “It was, ‘Can you wait a little longer, can you wait?’”

McMorrow defied them and launched.

With the party's image at record lows and declining even among Democratic voters, candidates for Senate see an opening to win by positioning themselves against leaders.

Something the man @mikeduncan.bsky.social will tell you at great and entertaining length is how long it takes for revolts to get off the ground, how often they fail, and how hard it is to predict exactly when they’ll pop off. Slowly and then all at once is a good rule.

I will go to my deathbed, which god willing will be in like seven decades, absolutely hating these people for their sheer hubris and decadence. We had the world, and they are risking it all because they can't see past the bridge of their nose shoved up their ass
The thing that's astounding is they don't seem to understand how what they're exactly playing at, their cowardice actually increases their personal risk! Their entire being is predicted on the stability and order that they are choosing to compromise!
American elites are deeply corrupt scum. Dimon fluffing the GOP Senate caucus today was a perfect example of it.

Occurs to me that Trump's entire regime consolidation strategy is to persuade everyone through displays of force that the regime is already consolidated and there's no point in resisting. Which I don't think will work, but also shows how important public acts of noncompliance are.
