We should not forget that Alice Wong could only go to college because she had access to Medicaid. People with disabilities can only thrive and survive if society chooses to invest in them the way it invests in everyone else.

The reason why most women my age couldn't care less if Bill Clinton goes down with the ship is that we were teens & young women when the Anita Hill and Monica Lewinsky scandals happened. It's rotten to the core. All the way down. Your "lost" era is not ours.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?

One way I have found to mourn someone is to set up a monthly sustaining donation to a mutual aid effort they cared about. If you can join me in honoring Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social with a sustaining donation today, please do. Thank you Alice, and I will not let the bastards grind me down.

disabled people should be paid enough to thrive, and this should happen automatically as soon as a doctor diagnoses you with a disability or a disabling condition.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

This is one of the most recent things Alice did. It was, as ever, a clear, trenchant, messy, and powerful exploration of not just her own experiences but also society's expectations around disability.

Today, we mourn the loss of Alice Wong, a trailblazer in every sense of the word. As the daughter of Hong Kong immigrants, a disability activist, and a fierce voice against colonialism, imperialism, and genocide, Alice gave voice to the interconnectedness of our collective liberation.

希望你一路走好。🤍🕯️

i think online gambling is a cancer that is spreading throughout our society, it was a horrible mistake to de-regulate it, and we desperately need to crack down on it again
i can’t talk about sports gambling anymore without sounding like a crank but i do believe legalized sports gambling is like 15-20% responsible for our current dystopia
The Athletic polled hundreds of players from across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL about their opinions surrounding how sports betting impacts players — the responses were haunting.

Learning loss didn’t come from “lockdowns” or remote instruction.
It COMES FROM (still happening) illness.
Illness caused by COVID.
Illness that makes kids miss school and teachers miss teaching.
SICK DAYS. And the vascular damage that causes incapacity to think & retain.
This is still happening.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

if you grew up disabled/Mad, you know what it's like to experience multiple forms of infantilization and delegitimization at once - for being a kid, and for being disabled on top of that. alice knew it too. she knew that being seen & trusted as a full person could change our lives. and she did it.
alice wong treated me as an equal from the moment she met me. i was a teenager with very little experience in the way of organizing; she was already a titan in this community. it didn't matter. she believed above all else that everyone, no matter how small, deserved to be treated as a future elder.

My most woke opinion is that "woke" at root is a beautiful concept: active socio-political consciousness in the context of the Black American liberation struggle. And the way it's been turned into a sneering pejorative is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen in Western political discourse.

You want to know why young people don’t give a fuck about our system? It’s because this pedophile piece of shit has never been held accountable despite being the antithesis of everything this country was founded on.

We have to give people a reason to vote and care, and the current system ain’t it.

This one... this one hurts. Alice was THE lightning rod of disability justice, in my eyes. She was the Judith Huemann of our generation, and I'm very, very sad knowing that she won't be here any longer, being that ubiquitous force for disability rights, so much so we wondered if she EVER slept.

You were incredible, Alice Wong, and it was a blessing to have collaborated with you on projects, to have read your words and to have heard your voice, as full of life and passion and joy and rage as it was.

You made a difference—so much of a difference.

Rest always in peace, and always in power.
