A very good point.
The publishing industry doesn’t provide writers with a living wage. It encourages unhealthy and unsustainable relationships between writers and their writing.
LLMs are making this so much worse.

Not to jump on discourse, and I know I am but a lowly peon when it comes to the swath of authors in the industry, but maybe if you hate writing something, it shouldn't be in your book?

I read this piece 👆 after I had one of these incidents 👇 last week. Citation is *not* merely "academic." It's about honesty and honor and responsibility and generosity. And there are ways to do it that aren't clunky and intrusive!
I’ve occasionally been asked to offer feedback on “social entrepreneurship” projects; I almost always note the lack of acknwldgmt of relevant scholarship — and I’m told: “these aren’t scholars.” Sure, but the relevant rsch has lots of “real-world” implications + can prevent you from doing harm.

When I disclose my disability, the *best case scenario* I hope for is indifference, specifically that I won’t be 1. othered and ostracized for being “too disabled” or 2. accused of faking or being “not that disabled.” What a double bind!
i've been kinda reticent on this latest round of "FaKeRs!1!!11 seeking college accommodations" bc it gets us nowhere. that said, every time it comes up, i remember how disability services at my undergrad asked me repeatedly if i was 'sure this [college] was the place for me' when i sought accoms.

It is a trap because the student and her would-be MAGA lawyer mom and her right wing advisors deliberately targeted a trans TA with this paper, seeing it as a no lose strat.
