I just reread a book on McCarthyism and higher ed and Roy Cohn makes an appearance because he was that active in helping to advance government repression

Huh well it turns out I heard from a few federal workers about this and well

"We civil servants organized to help our colleagues face the hardship of the shutdown, we put up with the pain and our only request was to not be betrayed like this. Trade our pain, make it count."

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

Tim Kaine on backlash he's getting: "I got the first good night's sleep last night that I've gotten since Oct 1, b/c I wasn't worried about being able to look Capitol Police in the eye when I walked in, or what a furloughed fed worker would say to me at church, or what somebody would say about SNAP"

hi there. yes, schumer knew roy cohn was trump’s attorney in 1979 bc cohn represented trump in several high profile cases covered in the Times in the early 1970s. cohn also helped lead the infamous McCarthy hearings & led govt witch hunts against gay ppl even tho he himself was gay. hope this helps!🫡
Bahahahaha who cares it was 1979. Wait, do you think he has a Time Machine?!? Do you think he knew!!?!?!!??!?!?

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

all of these Democratic senators putting out statements, ‘i swear i voted NO!’

IT👏DOES👏NOT👏MATTER👏

if you can’t hold your coalition together after one of the biggest electoral sweeps, you’re not a real political party—and why would your opponents (or allies) ever take you seriously again?
