If this was nationalised, the usual suspects would say "typical government, nothing works!" But things working is a function of care, investment, management, staffing, resource allocation. The only difference privatisation makes by itself is how many middle men you pay.

Arrested large amounts of peaceful clergy face first on pavement is a pretty good sign you’re not the good guys in the story. www.reuters.com/legal/govern...

I came to this country as a child refugee. No English, no certainty, no idea what my life could become. Britain gave me refuge.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

The BBC really is the equivalent of a panda that refuses to fuck to save itself. Its coverage has moved notably to the right and it still isn't enough, on of all things a supposedly misleadingly edited Trump clip, as if he didn't encourage the January 6th uprising.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

They are also intentionally conflating machine-learning and generative AI slop to confuse and try to make GenAI seem necessary. Google Maps traffic stuff is machine learning, not GenAI, for example. Auto-correct is too. Don't let them make you lose the thread. GenAI slop is slop.
the nyt posts this stuff like avoiding AI for 48 hours is hard and meanwhile i have literally never once intentionally used an AI program for anything ever

I'm old enough to have grown up with family who fought in WWII. They rarely talked about it and when they did it was to warn, not glorify. Remembrance Day was a time of quiet, sombre reflection. They would be horrified at the twisted celebration it has become.
