I don’t think any of us are fully prepared for the level of self-pity and absolution that’s going to be in Olivia Nuzzi’s (hilariously titled) “American Canto”

About my only childhood/teenage obsession was The X Files, which writers at the time chided for suggesting there was truth to conspiracy theories, and yet I think it's been far more vindicated than Hobbity tosh or never ending Star Wars crap
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

This is very good from Lewis Goodall, exposing how the same people behind the coup at the BBC first targeted him. Ultimate irony of course he's gone from one place of stodgy conservatism to another with two of the most boring and overrated people from that org.

Al-Qaeda in Syria's Ex-Commander Enlists in The War on Terror
They always said al-Qaeda would one day make its way to the White House. Turns out it's not for a suicide bombing but a handshake

Always interesting isn't it when ex-BBC people suddenly decide their long-term employer was in fact terrible and it's all the fault of something their new employer loathes, in this case Mark Urban, now of the Sunday Times, and young people and their pathological wokeness

How seriously you should take the 8,000 word memo that has led to the DG and head of news resigning is its stance on the Trump Panorama, which according to the author should essentially have regarded him as a perfectly legitimate candidate and not a convicted felon.

No more noble British tradition than resigning over some nonsense everyone is only pretending to be angry about rather than all of the actually bad things you've done.

The BBC really is the equivalent of a panda that refuses to fuck to save itself. Its coverage has moved notably to the right and it still isn't enough, on of all things a supposedly misleadingly edited Trump clip, as if he didn't encourage the January 6th uprising.

Neo-conservativism presaged Trumpian neo-fascism in several respects. It saw violence as a positive policy option not a defensive last resort. It held laws, norms and the lives of non-white people in total contempt. And many, many centrists either cringed in deference to it or actively collaborated.

I don't know lads, however obviously evil many of the Bush administration inmates were, even Dick Cheney seems fairly benevolent in comparison to the out and out fascists Trump has parading around now

I'm struggling to see what the difference is between what Angela Rayner did and Rachel Reeves has, but Rachel from accounts is one of the boys and has to carry the can for however awful the budget is going to be, so needs to stick around a little longer at least

Nobody had even heard of Katie Lam outside of Westminster until about two weeks ago.
Literally all it takes to be considered "brilliant" and a "rising star" on the right of British politics now is just a willingness to say something slightly more racist than all of your competitors

One thing there absolutely is an over-representation of in adverts is those unbelievably fucking creepy beds in the Dreams ones, just unfathomable how someone thought giving beds eyes and mouths would be endearing and in the latest one a stupid accent and not mortifying

Obviously this is terrible for Labour, but people forget that the Tories were behind in the polls for much of the time in their first terms in both 79-83 and 10-15, and ended up winning bigger majorities. Clearly Labour won't do that but they absolutely can come back from this.
Labour hits their lowest ever poll rating with YouGov, level with the Conservatives on 17%. Greens at their highest ever.
Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dems and Greens now all essentially within margin of error of each other
