Iceland is Greenland
Norway is Denmark
Thailand is Thighland
The US is screwed
Trump is now confusing Greenland and Iceland: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money."

"Someone was annoying" is a national emergency
President Trump says he decided to levy a 39% tariff on Swiss exports because Helene Budliger Artieda, director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, “just rubbed me the wrong way.”

Critical theory is back, baby!
Today, @jocelynsimonson.bsky.social and @ksabeelrahman.bsky.social challenge the idea that law review articles should conclude with a set of actionable prescriptions.

This convention, they argue, constrains ambition, sidelines critique, and conflates near-term feasibility with rigor.
Beyond Feasibility in Legal Scholarship
Law review articles are expected to conclude with a short section, often “Part IV,” that translates analysis into actionable prescriptions. Though well-intentioned, this convention constrains ambition...

To honor my first day of Criminal Procedure, I'm listening to "99 Problems" (although we are still weeks away from analyzing the second verse for whether it is legally accurate under modern 4th Amendment doctrine).

Shitposting as Due Process

Corey Rayburn Yung

In this article ...
After Sauer says Lisa Cook "was given an opportunity" to respond to the allegations, KBJ asks whether that due process was: "She supposed to post about it, and that was the opportunity to be heard?"

Yes, Sauer replies.

The butterfly effect was used to be about weather formation (as Lorenz intended). But, now, it's all time travel. Damn you, Ashton Kutcher!
Just got back from my time traveling dinosaur safari and you won’t believe how many butterflies I stepped on! Now to take a big sip of water and check on President Harris’s trip to Davos

I expect to finish teaching Criminal Law, come back to my office, and discover Alito was pushing, during oral argument, the idea that Trump is the heir to the Galactic Empire.
It's not like the Supreme Court is about to hear oral arguments on whether this guy should have the power to invent reasons to fire members of the Federal Reserve board...

(Narrator: The oral argument in Trump v. Cook is set to begin in about 20 minutes.)
Trump: "We should be paying the lowest interest rate of any country in the world, because without the United States you don't have a country." 🥴

The Pseudo-Sexual Theory of International Relations
Trump on NATO: "Until the last few days when I told them about Iceland, they loved me. They called me daddy."

(He means Greenland.)

The mad king thinks he is king of the world. All countries exist at his pleasure.
Trump on Canada: They should be grateful also, but they’re not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful. But they should be grateful to us. Canada lives because of the U.S. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.

So far, I am only seeing TPM, Mediaite, and Daily Beast focusing on this.

We live in a world where the president calling an ethnic group "very low IQ" and "bad for our country" while insisting they "ought to get the hell out of here" barely makes headlines. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-m...

Oh, look. The white president who thinks that asylum seekers come from insane asylums, that the Norwegian government gives out the Nobel Peace Prize, that stealth bombers are invisible to the naked eye, and that windmills cause cancer is talking about which black people have a "low IQ" again.

Trump brags about his AI policies but ends up talking about how he "opened up the water" to start the fires in California. His brain is mush.

The clips will not do justice to how long and rambling this press conference is. If he was doing this at a cocktail party, everyone would have long walked away from him.
Omg this press conference is going to go on forever

Trump just said Leonard Leo is a "bad guy." LOL.

I'm listening to the Trump press conference (for reasons unknown) and he really is more rambling than usual. He is just making crap up and babbling while he goes through a written list of accomplishments.

Trump just said "Thailand" and pronounced it properly, which reminds of the time that he said "Thighland" and a bunch of right-wing influencers (particularly Dinesh D'Souza) came out and said that's how it is actually pronounced.

Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color... it has to stop"

Trump's narcissism on full display. It is always about him.
Trump: "ICE is gonna be too rough with somebody. They're gonna make a mistake sometimes. I felt horribly when I was told the young woman had the tragedy. But when I learned her father is - I hope he still is, but I don't know - was a tremendous Trump fan. It's terrible. It's so sad. It just happens"
