AI in a sense cannot be trusted because its name cannot be mud. this is the normal defense mechanism against clinical malpractice in medicine - if someone fucks up repeatedly and egregiously, no one trusts anything they touch anymore. but good luck convincing ppl to do that with Claude

the whole "move fast break shit" mentality is actually entirely outside of anything resembling good practice, inevitably has an enormous death toll, and is also just the default stance for new things business decides medicine should be doing

quietly medicine has a huge version of that problem various fields have with elon musk - there are many specializations, and most people working in the field do not have the time or, in some cases, the training to read deeper than the abstract outside of theirs. it's easy to fake good clinical work
It’s crazy the sheer number of supposedly rational people who were like “ok but it’s good at health stuff” early on.
When AI was added to a tool for sinus surgery: “Cerebrospinal fluid leaked from one patient’s nose. In another… a surgeon mistakenly punctured the base of a patient’s skull. In two other cases, patients suffered strokes after a major artery was accidentally injured”

I don't want to take away from the efforts that observers and activists have been making in the initial periods here, but as the government ramps this up, it really is going to become necessary to physically get in the way of this. Which sucks, I know. But I don't see that there's another way.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

The largest federal prison in the nation is Fort Dix, which has a rated capacity of 4,600 people. The largest of these warehouse camps may hold more than twice that number of people.

The federal government hasn't operated a prison camp inside the United States that large since Japanese Internment.

I was thinking how when Scott Adams was about to go and rightwingers were saying “you have no idea what impact it’s going to have when Scott Adams dies, he was loved by millions” and then he just died and nothing happened. These ghouls just disappear when they stop talking
Remember when Charlie Kirk got shot and the right was like "THIS IS CIVIL WAR!" and three weeks later he was completely forgotten about? That's going to be most all the rest of these assholes too

The truth is especially important for leftists now more than ever. Material conditions & reality are what shape actual politics, not idealism & wishcasting.

As conservatives continue to sink into conspiracy, this contradiction will heighten as will the temptation to practice a politics of delusion.
Again, this poor kid is traumatized & actively hiding from the American gestapo after escaping a fascist concentration camp. He was not at the super bowl.

The number of influencers I saw viciously insisting otherwise was revolting, particularly the ones defending the misinfo they were spreading.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

I've been to some countries where people live under military rule or autocracy. And without fail, one of the questions I get when they ask about life in the U.S. is whether it's true that Americans just let homeless people die on the street.
During freezing temperatures in Port Arthur, Texas, a 61-year-old homeless man was found dead in his wheelchair outside a convenience store.

He was wearing a hospital gown and no shoes. Authorities say he had been released from a hospital the previous day.

This is a diseased society.

Even a bit of occasional light Noticing Things might have kept them on the straight and narrow. Instead, it’s been the golden genius treatment: protecting them from rivals, boosting them relentlessly. A bad thing to do with saints, and this is what happens when you do that for crooks and weirdos.
