Yeah, it has long been the case that adult-oriented businesses have to be careful or risk the wrath of everyone from prosecutors to payment-processing companies, but "prominent social media company owned by world's richest person swiftly became world's largest CSAM producer" produces no reaction.
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead

I’m still pretty new to IG, having only gotten on once Twitter went down the tubes, and I keep finding new genres of influencer that I am anthropologically fascinated by. My latest is “Queer/female/PoC explains how to ‘hack the system’ to ‘build the wealth you deserve’” and it’s just… be a landlord

In my professional opinion (both of them) the real therapeutic benefit here is draining them of their money while providing stabilizing support, akin to clearing out a hoarder’s house
So, I've been thinking about health care and I remembered this old documentary on this $300,000 a night rehab and therapy facility for the uber wealthy. (I know you're all going to try to guess the hidden billionaire being interviewed at 12:30. I won't judge.) youtu.be/_J3nVC0GoVg?...

Similar but related: someone booked me to perform at her father’s 75th birthday party, which also had a pianist and an aerialist. This has only happened once, but I would absolutely do it again! Just in case any of you are in the market.
Years ago I knew a guy who occasionally did a gig playing piano live at orgies and I just think it would be pretty cool if someone booked live music for our scene.

The scylla of everyone treating every news story like they just started paying attention and acting naive and brand new

The charybdis of pointing out nothing is new and acting jaded and above it to the point of denying new contexts and realities to stay safely embedded in left ideologies

What is the precedent for straight-up kidnapping the leader of another country we’re not even at war with? Like I’m sure there are similar situations, I’m genuinely asking
I TOLD YOU BRO. I FUCKIN WARNED YOU DAWG

This is the whole point of predictions markets, no? For people to legally profit off of insider knowledge?
"A newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759."

Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

Nothing has made me feel older and more pessimistic tbh. I wonder if it’s more or less terrifying than only knowing Trump.
It’s sobering to look back on the run-up to the Iraq war—a period of unceasing chattering-class debate, elaborate official lies, media complicity, unavailing global protest, in the end a giant stitch-up—and have it seem like some sort of paradise of public deliberation compared to these gangsters.

Dear LA and San Diego: NYC is destroying you in January bookings right now. I’m only going to be in town Jan 15-17 (LA) & 18-20 (SD), and if you don’t book this time around, you can bet I I’ll be skipping yr bum-ass cities next winter for Miami instead! Don’t let it happen!

all I’ve got is that the idea that you can commit any act of violence and say you were just executing a warrant is chilling and also common to US police

Wonderfully realistic analysis of Mamdani — what he can and can’t do as mayor, but more importantly what OTHERS can do because he is mayor.

There’s a whole thesis to be written on the line between migrant and transplant in NYC, whether it’s good or bad, and how it shifts depending on the speaker’s agenda
Here is the editor of Tablet agreeably reposting someone calling nonwhite NYC immigrants "worthless biotrash." It's astonishing how quickly this stuff has escaped containment

this is so funny. “i don’t know what he was talking about but it definitely wasn’t ME” is so funny. what a funny way to start my day.
I need examples of what Mamdani was talking about, which definitely was not people like me

This is not really an obscene amount of money to spend on boots. The materials and craftsmanship will help them last a lifetime vs spending $150 and having to replace them every 4 years. I personally wouldn’t spend more than $350 but also I don’t have a husband making $260k
