Further evidence that this isn't about being a progressive or a moderate. Its about being a fighter or a coward.

It's the timeline where some guy who says he's an economist makes a fancy chart where there's an inflection point about 8 months out that says "AI singularity"
bro Apple sells the most popular technological device in history for a thousand bucks every year and they're pulling in around 400 billion
Amazon is responsible for like half of all commerce and makes 600 billion
in what kind of timespan is OpenAI supposed to make 1.5 trillion? the 21st century?

Don’t worry, though, I’m sure the vote in December on the premium tax credits will go differently. (And definitely won’t jam anybody up in the short window they have to sign up for a plan.) bsky.app/profile/sahi...
UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

If you have are lucky enough to have coverage then, yes, the patient protection parts of the ACA still exists. But the affordable parts, well. I refer you to the screenshot.

Like I was saying. Rugpulling the expanded premium tax credits suddenly dumps a few million people out of the market and leads to shit like this as insurance cos react, which quickly becomes self perpetuating.
And that’s how you de facto repeal the aca.

one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

american health care is fundamentally based on insurance in one form or another and every time it gets tweaked a lot of people reveal that they do not understand or do not support the concept of insurance
Remember that insurance is actually a thing you hope never to use, and then read this critique.

Claimants have to get the exact date and the location right! You do not have to give them even 50% credit if they only have one of those things.

Basically: I think the political point scoring arguments right now are missing the point pretty seriously. We absolutely have to assert the constitutional order, and you cannot open the government if the other party refuses.

The only thing I can say is that setting up to fund SNAP through '26 at least makes the argument in front of SCOTUS far more complicated for SCOTUS when Vought decides in February to not pay benefits and violate the aprops deal in the new shutdown.

In the current situation: Nothing about this asserts any legislative prerogative in the slightest and allows DJT and Vought to keep doing wtf they want. The Deficiency act language on the RIF is close, but woefully insufficient.

In a normal environment, this is not a bad deal. Political timebomb gets punted till after the holidays, travel comes back, chaos dies down and people can eat. Dems win an actual concession or two.

Basically: I think that people who are like 'eh it's not a bad deal' are also not understanding the current stakes of what Trump and co. are doing, and the cost of not using every piece of leverage you have.
