Different Alan Scott than the Green Lantern one, but we are both gay.

Were I ever actually to get off my but and post stuff, I'd be posting about Tabletop, Comics, Mixology, Current Events, and Retail Management.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

See, when I'm facilitating #ttrpgs, I'm there to be entertained by the antics of the OTHER players.

I AM THE AUDIENCE, not the performer; yeah, I'll do my bit parts, and set design, and stage management and lighting.

But your PCs are the STARS OF THE SHOW, so make with the roles/rolls and SHINE!
Too many people wants the GM to provide the fun while they don’t do a damn thing to help anyone. Fuck that. Everyone has the responsibility to help everyone at the table have fun

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

There's a lot to criticize in 4E, from how classes and races were split up to bad MMs to having a boring armor system (again), but that's not usually what people complained about. They parroted dumb complaints with little direct knowledge, and for it they should be pursued by hounds across the moor.
having played 4e, it ain't really all that, especially the early monster manuals. The internal drama at WotC really hamstrung what could have been an okay game.

13th Age was better.

My fav Shakespeare thing is how Henry IV part 2 starts with Majel Barrett Roddenberry saying, "Previously on Henry IV..." and there's a clip reel ending with Hotspur yelling "FIRE EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT."

Then Majel's voice: "And now, the conclusion."

Notably, reactionaries in power are failing to live up to this promise, which is a big part of the reason for the current backlash and loss of support.
And I do think, to anticipate a Q, that the general sense of social dislocation & uncertainty is increasing. In large part this is what reactionary politics is reacting to. It promises a return to clearly defined hierarchies, to clarity, to *certainty*. "In our world, you'll understand your place."

it is absolutely the tech companies fault that people now assume they’re doing something evil and sneaky even when they actually aren’t (regarding the latest Google kerfuffle)

like, no kidding that people have zero willingness to cut big tech the benefit of the doubt anymore

There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

Thread. “AI is patching up the holes in conspiracy theories and so making them seem more reasonable, making them easier to spread and more resilient to collapse” was not on my bingo card.

AI relieves the pressure of cognitive dissonance. That’s … not great.
Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

Sometimes I glance at YouTube and there's a video about Doctor Who, Star Trek, etc., that's like "breaking news! a thing happened!"

And then instead of watching a 30 minute video I go and look for text-based sites that can tell me in three sentences what the thing that happened was.

Its all cosplay and whataboutism to them. They didn't play with kids whose parents had camp tattoos, or learn from old men who still cried from PTSD. 1/?

your average suburban democrat wants half the administration to rot in prison until the end of time, and anyone more moderate than that position is unlikely to hold office for very long
