At the opening night party for Mickey Mantle's restaurant, my dad spent 15 mins chatting w/Keith Hernandez. I was too awe/starstruck to interrupt and ask dad to introduce me. When they were done chatting I stage-whispered YOU KNOW KEITH?? My dad replied: "Hernandez? I thought that was John Stossel

Were there multiple pieces asking that question leading up to Jan 1, 2022? Also no.

This really is the culmination of the unitary executive theory — the entire cabinet must profess servile fealty to the personality of one man & forswear any notion that their office entails responsibilities to the American people or concern for the public good beyond servicing his whims

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

In 1932, FDR was elected with 57.4% of the vote. He brought us the New Deal.
In 1964, LBJ was elected with 61.1% of the vote. He brough us the Great Society.
In 2025, Trump was elected with 49.8% of the vote. He's attempting to destroy everything FDR & LBJ built.

The rest is commentary.

If you want to run a charity, run a charity. Build the relationships you need in the community, work with existing service providers.

You know what would fairly get you accused of not sincerely caring about helping the community? Building a charity that operates for six months before an election.
I think Will would probably say instead of running both, just run the mutual aid org on a permanent basis.

This piece is a great illustration of how the long-term effect of Trump’s destruction of US institutions won’t be felt in a dramatic market collapse, but rather in permanently worse economic conditions, and lower prosperity.

Speaks to something deeply wrong with capitalism that Lampert was allowed to annihilate the value of this company to less than nothing while still walking away with hundreds of millions in profits for himself from the saga.

I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

longstanding theory on this is that people who know the applicant that they don't want to hire has racial resentment offer "wish i could've hired you, but they made me hire a black woman instead!" as a let-them-down-easy cope rather than admit to them that they just didn't want to hire them.
