We will see. From what I understand the strong public objections don't necessarily reflect talks behind closed doors - and in any case, the CBAM has already changed the discussions on the trade/climate, which I think is a good thing.

Der Lapsus von Merz zu Belém war ein diplomatischer Hechtsprung ins Fettnäpfchen und zeigt einen totalen geopolitischen Blindflug.
🇩🇪 braucht 🇧🇷 mehr denn je an seiner Seite sollte dringend seinen Umgang mit dem Globalen Süden insgesamt überdenken, wenn es in Zukunft noch eine Rolle spielen möchte.

Nicht, weil er bahnbrechende Klimaschutzmaßnahmen mitträgt, sondern weil er "froh" war, "von diesem Ort wegzukommen".

Glückwunsch an den Kanzler. So kann man Jahrzehnte der diplomatischen Beziehungen einreißen.

What happens at #COP30 in #Belém?
So far, #COP30 has been far more interesting than many expected (including myself) — and also more encouraging, given the otherwise very bleak global outlook on climate and almost everything else.

A third option is to launch a "Belem Roadmap to 1.5C" which seems like it would be a repeat of the Baku to Belem Roadmap to 1.3T.... just for mitigation.

I've made a spreadsheet with the event schedules for COP30 pavilions, including the UK 🇬🇧 Japan 🇯🇵 Indonesia 🇮🇩 Australia 🇦🇺 and China 🇨🇳

The UNFCCC has a schedule list, but hardly any of the major pavilions are on there.

Fazit: Als Resultat vergangener Blockaden wächst das Risiko zukünftiger Eskalationen.

Werden solche Blockade- und Eskalationskaskaden nicht entschärft, erhöhen sie das Risiko ernsthafter klimapolitischer und gesellschaftlicher Rückschritte.
