The Wisconsin component of the analysis here is revealing. Evidence is consistent with DOGE strategically delaying contract terminations in WI until after the 2025 state Supreme Court elections to mitigate electoral risk.

Two stories side by side in WashPost

As the article describes it, the movie compiles songs from other deeply racist movies/shows with blackface (including ones done by the leads in White Christmas) but is mostly shorn of the explicit racism.

**Part of this is what their worldview tells them, and part of it is that Christian nationalists tend to live in communities with "high walls," meaning they're surrounded by people who agree with the worldview, and don't very often encounter people who reject it. They're often very nice within it!

*We usually call this "evangelical" these days, but it's rooted in the post-Kantian fundamentalist rejection of modern criticism and assertion of scripture as the authoritative guide to truth. Remember what I said about epistemology?

Some good stuff in that one, but also puts the white in White Christmas. www.themarysue.com/white-christ...

Unfortunately, I think there’s a gap between what we believe/know and what we teach. I haven’t seen popular intro textbooks describing let alone focusing on the various supremacisms that continue to define our politics. I imagine it’s unusual for most intro teaching.
DOGE was A LOT less likely to cancel contracts from companies that donated money to Republicans than companies that donated to Democrats.

But I was ASSURED by mainstream polisci & news that it’s just principled states’ rights, limited government, individualism, traditionalism, free speech & free religion, etc!
A lot of conservative behavior makes sense when you realize their hierarchy is man over woman, adult over child, white over non-white, straight over gay, Christian above everyone else.

Want to know why they don’t care if Trump’s involved with Epstein? Man above woman, above child.
This has nothing to do with faith or observance btw. It’s just about establishing an official hierarchy of citizenship where they are on top. bsky.app/profile/mark...

Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.
GOP operatives Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, convicted election fraudsters, were paid $960,000 in the second quarter to secure a pardon for a former nursing-home operator who defrauded the government of $38 million. Trump pardoned the man, Joseph Schwartz, last month.

β€œBut I’m just sharing the good news about Jesus that you may not have heard.” Really? You think I’ve lived here in America and have never encountered Christianity?

Reposted by Nathan P. Kalmoe

This is the key part. Only Christian Americans are allowed to confidently proclaim the truth of their beliefs, if anyone else does it they’re trying to β€œram their beliefs down your throat.”

Thread. This is a crucial thing for non-Christian Americans to understand. Most Christian Nationalists think it’s an act of kindness on their part to tell you that you will be going to hell if you don’t convert. It’s incomprehensible to most of them that they’re being bigots.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

That privilege--the privilege to speak of your religious beliefs as certainties that are incontestable--is given to Christians alone in America. And anyone else knows this and tiptoes around it, reflexively.

But what if we stopped doing that, like this guy did in North Dakota?

Every jaw in the room dropped. He had done the unthinkable. He had not only told them his beliefs, but he had done it with the equal degree of certainty that they had employed in telling him theirs. And there's this unspoken rule in America: Only Christians are allowed to do this.

always after he explained what he believed as a Jew, he was barraged by emails from concerned students asking why he didn't believe Jesus was the son of God. And he said,

"Well there's a very simple answer to why I don't believe Jesus is the son of God."

"Because he's not."
Astonishing feat!
US will break its record for the warmest Christmas by ~5Β°F! That’s remarkable.
Anomalies are up to +40Β°F in the nation’s middle and as you can see the US has the warmest air - relative to average - in the World!

Another reminder that all the Trump-era bigotries & nationalisms were a core part of the Republican Party under Bushes & Reagan too.
In retrospect the Bush-era War On Christmas stuff seems more ominous than it did at the time. It was just cable news guys crying about dumb/fake shit, then and now; I mean the campaign to turn Christmas, which most everyone likes and feels warmly about, into just another thing to get mad about.

How Trump always does business.

Merry Christmas and friendly reminder that Jesus was a brown, woke, anti-capitalist refugee from the Middle East who had two dads, became a rabbi, wore flowing dresses, ran around with sex workers, preached radical inclusion, railed against income inequality, and was brutally killed by the police.
