he literally is losing court cases because his public statements have nothing to do with reality.
Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

That our immigration system is deeply flawed, as is our public‘s idea/notion of criminality, and the incongruity between what constitutes a trained and licensed professional and competency itself.
The thing I can’t get over is that it isn’t just that he was able to get the job, it’s that he appeared to be very good at it. I’m not sure what lesson we draw from that.

The regime is acting this way because there are no consequences so it is clear that consequences—the development of them, the advocacy for them, the imposition on bad behavior—are the answer to our crisis.

genuinely impossible to overstate what the secret police are doing. It is state hooliganism. It is gangsterism as policy. It is the jouissance of the original klan nightriders that followed the civil war. they terrorize minority communities while intentionally paralyzing local governments.

Hey check it out they're inserting nakedly partisan propaganda in front of bureaucratic federal websites
The Trump administration doesn't believe in democracy and treats all opposition as inherently illegitimate

i know hegseth's speech was intended to tell the military they won't get prosecuted for war crimes and beating your wife won't hold up getting promoted to O-4, but bringing in trump fresh from death's door is a really persuasive way to unconsciously tell them the crimes jubilee may not last too long

once again, if you straightforwardly explain how LBOs work to any normal person, they think you must by lying
A lot of people are (understandably) focused on the Saudi Arabia and Kushner part of this, but the far bigger immediate impact will come from the new private EA being on the hook for $20 billion in debt. That could mean mass layoffs, more aggressive monetization, and other big cost-cutting measures

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.
ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.

what anil said. also, two things are true:

1. america has a horrific, brutal facist and authoritarian tradition which has prepared for this moment;
2. that is not the only american tradition, and pretending it is helps the fascists.
Lots of folks want to have a gotcha, "did you know: America has always had corruption!" No shit. But did you know: a huge reason millions of people came to this country was because it was *better* at things like the rule of law and not being openly corrupt. For real. bsky.app/profile/anil...
sure, sure, I get that this is the "savvy" take. But no, actually, you didn't have the mayor of the largest city in the country openly bargaining away obvious crimes with the president of the United States in plain view of everyone.

Pretty much just the US civil war, Vietnam's toppling the Khmer Rouge, the Sea People's righteous jihad against the decadent tyrannies of the Bronze Age, and world war 2. All morally grey them aside.
What percent of wars throughout history had a "good guy"? It can't be very high I would think

Destroy car dealerships and you save US democracy
whoa. Every single one of the Sinclair advert buyers on this list is automotive or automotive related (insurance). That is one aspect of the power in our society held by car companies that I haven't seen studied enough.
For those in #Sinclair and #Nexstar markets.... #Boycott the advertisers!! After all, Disney got the message that way! There may be some you can’t, but there are some you can!

TRUMP: Our message is very simple. If you come illegally into the US, you're going to jail or you're going back to where you came from or perhaps even further than that. You know what that means.

i would go a little further: i don't think they have faith in institutions so much as just completely take them for granted. surely groceries and gas are always relatively cheap. water is always drinkable; why would it not be? it's water. of course the stock market works, it's a market.
wrote about this last year and sure I wasn't in any way the only one but imo people voting for populist politics in the 21st century *is* a sign that they do just have too much faith in institutions, as opposed to not enough - they want to have their little tantrum but assume things will just hold
