I've picked up some new followers over the last few days and I've got to tell you, you're all going to be disappointed
Trying to decide if it's more accurate to say that poli sci research is "like econ research but what if you're not an asshole about it" or if econ research is like doing any other research but done douchily
unfortunately some of the stereotypes about social sciences that conservatives have, largely false in like Econ, Poli sci, etc. are partially true about education research (lots of exceptions, etc). it's really bad.
"i don't like the value judgment implied in 'that kid can't read so well'" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Being the change I want see and reading the most recent 10-Q

I don't actually see anything about adjustments to operating income, that just talk about regular operating income a lot

I'm assuming either Bloomberg or Amazon is talking about seasonally adjusted quarterly operating income
no, but they're all disclosed in great detail with every quarterly earnings which is a quick google away.

completely insane that the wikipedia conference didn't end in a bloodbath because a couple of wiki editors rushed the gunman and disarmed him

A Wikipedia Conference Took a Dark Turn. Unfortunately, It’s Not a Total Surprise.
An armed man at a gathering of the website’s volunteers is just the latest reminder: Editing the internet’s encyclopedia has never been riskier.

I wanted to let this marinate for a bit before I responded

I think I completely disagree on all points, and I might actually think that more mass participation *could* be better with the right groundwork (not sure yet)
the stock market should not be for mass participation by uninformed savers. it should be open to all, of course, but most people should save in savings accounts, CDs, treasuries. 1/

They figured out how to put lactase in milk so lactose intolerant people can drink it, there's a decent sized fortune out there for whomever does this for gluten in bread and pasta without messing up the flavor and texture

Which is straight from the authoritarian handbook, chapter 1

Subordinates that are not corrupt are not trustworthy or loyal because they are avoiding giving you dirt on them

Subordinates that *are* corrupt can be blamed for whatever's convenient and arrested for corruption as necessary
the thing about corruption on this scale is that *not* being on the take is almost certainly bad for your prospects. this is and has always been the thing about trump, it is not just that *he* is corrupt, it is that demands you *also* be corrupt as a precondition to working for him

Reference letters are mostly useless and dumb, which can be illustrated by the fact that in spite of the comment below, I have read my own reference letters because they ask me to proofread it before they start sending it out

Like, what did you expect from three people I personally selected?
Thus far I've gotten away with just providing a PDF of my references' contact info, idk what else they were expecting but I'm not asking my friends to send me their letters, that's insane

PhDs can be and some would likely argue, should be hard.

But surely not *this* hard?

fundamentally what the people on this site who are mad about No Kings are afraid of is that it will work and things will get better without them being in charge of how it gets better

This entire thread, from start to finish, is why I fervently believe that Filoni should be fired and replaced with someone that will immediately kill off every character Filoni has ever touched or even hinted that he likes
This also keeps all of Dave Filoni’s blorbos alive.

I've thought about this more and I think the actual answer to everyone's problems in WWI is referred to as "having lots of trucks" aka being Texas
you don't need tanks to make breakthroughs! infantry made breakthroughs all the time! the problem was then coordinating those infantry advancing, artillery, resupply, etc. the speed of runners was just not fast enough, telegraph wires were constantly getting blown up.

I would be interested to see a game that really rewarded detailed force design alongside a bespoke tactical and operational doctrine, but it would get 1/10 the sales at best and probably wouldn't be as fun to play
hearts presents enormous superficial complexity which disguises a deep lack of real choices in force design. land operations are more complicated but after a thousand hours or so you realize they are also easy

I think the actual optimal housing plan is a lot closer to "VA loans but for everyone", or at least something that provides down payments and results in a conforming loan for the rest
"if you can't save for a downpayment, you don't deserve to not be homeless" is one of the weirdest shitty beliefs held by basically every point on the political spectrum
Wait. I think I missed this.

Arizona Democrats don't think renters are "everyday families".

People get really nostalgic for the time when they didn't have to make insurance payments or file warranty claims themselves, and an awful lot of their feelings about the past are downstream of that
It is just "hey, remember being a child?"

Insane how much behavior can be explained by "a bone-deep desire to be bullies and have that be the morally forthright thing to do"

As a single factor I think it's unmatched as a model for both online and offline behavior
It's what they want to be true because most of their politics is informed by a bone-deep desire to be bullies and have that be the morally forthright thing to do, but it's just not, and never was.

the fact that it seems to be the modal position on here means NOBODY is acting aligned with reality
