As someone who was there it was clear that ICE intended to fire teargas on the labor march, directing shots over the heads of those closest to the building and firing munitions directly at the crowd. They even chose munitions that would have the widest possible effect.
Shameful that the Portland Mayor said that “outside agitators” were responsible for triggering ICE’s assault on thousands of union members last Saturday. Then @pdxoregon50501.bsky.social threw out the ED of @jwjpdx.bsky.social for holding the mayor accountable.

Watched The Muppet Show with Sabrina Carpenter and really enjoyed it. It was funny to me that the joke that landed hardest with my 12-year-old was when Seth Rogan complained that he had been cut from the show for a Muppet that wasn't "canon." Hearing an adult complain about canon really tickled her.

it’s easy to say that the child of omelas has a moral obligation to vote for the “the child of omelas needs to be kept in misery” party if you are not the child of omelas.
Cis people: Would you vote for a politician who would fix maybe 1/3rd of the issues we are currently facing but would also shoot you personally directly in your genitals with a pistol? Genuinely curious if that would be a red line for you.

"By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed."

A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.

Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.

This part, so much. I love all the independent journalists I follow, but I may not be able to continue paying all of you going forward. We need more journalist-owned and run collectives like @defector.com and @theflytrapmedia.com.
i want you all to have resources and health insurance and also selfishly i want to be able to read a bunch of writers for the low price of $1 a week instead of choosing my favorite writers out of a hat to see who i can support this month

I'm always buoyed by a Lee thread
Insurrectionary feminist anarchism is such a secure home for me in a way mass movement focused anarchism never could be because it starts with acceptance that the most crucial conflicts are and will remain profoundly asymmetric, then challenges one to develop a principled response from that point.

Mass movement focused politics have an undeniably conservative influence on most people. As evidenced by the countless conversations about anarchism, misogyny, white supremacy, ableism, etc. get derailed by activists concerned foremost with popularity and mass appeal.

You'd think that I'd have grown up having been made fun of for having a large head, seeing as whenever I try on glasses specifically advertised as extra wide they remain much too tight. But that hasn't actually happened much in my life. Weird

You know a good giveaway that 'using whistles is disabilist' is not rooted in good faith or community care? I have seen no serious discussion about how to include Deaf/HoH folks in rapid notification. How are we quickly notifying targeted Deaf/HoH folks who can't hear whistles/shouts?
Don't think I don't notice that you are NOWHERE when disabled people are asking for your help and you just like to trot us out when it is convenient.

Ableism is a real thing, but so is being so overly concerned about it that you flip back around to infantilizing and abandoning the people you purport to want to help. Reject the framing that if anything and everything is a "trigger", then the only acceptable action is to be passive
Ugh. The main anti-ICE group in Washington which has 44k followers on Facebook and has been going around to communities promoting classes is now promoting this anti-whistle nonsense for "harm reduction" reasons as well.

New — I spoke to eight people who were present at the ICE protest on Saturday in Portland, Oregon when federal agents deployed tear gas and rubber bullets into a crowd of families, children, elderly and disabled people, and their pets.

People all over Portland, Oregon were impacted by the chemical warfare deployed by the feds tonight. Here’s a thread of some Portlanders experiences who weren’t even at the protest:
Lots and lots of teargas and various other munitions. People yelling for medics. Ambulance came for one person already and there was a brutal arrest amidst all of this

Can't now find it but there's a classic old tweet which said something like "Every time we're on the verge of achieving class consciousness in America a CIA sleeper agent activates and, their eyes glowing red, they just tweet out "John Brown was a white saviour"" and I think about it often.

They are both annoying.

AT THE SAME TIME. Opsec stuff matters, right now, actually. It is not a LARP, even if folks who are being annoying are the ones advocating for it.

Hell, I literally proactively tell people not to put me in sensitive chats *specifically* because I write dissident stuff about the regime under my real name, & have previously been on LEO radar.

It's not necessarily about "are you a bad person," it's about "does your participation endanger people"
Flagging yourself (and your phone, by extension) as part of a resistance network makes you (and your devices) a point of vulnerability.

I wouldn't want to be in organizing chats with someone actively goading DHS, that's just asking for trouble
