More from today's initial light rail vehicle roll down the Southwest LRT route. Construction began in 2018 and Metro Transit says passengers will ride in 2027. Over the Kenilworth Channel, leaving W Lake St Station, arriving at W 21st St Station, exiting the Kenilworth tunnel.

It's arrived! The first LRV has made it to the Southwest Station area.

Today marks the first train pull out to Southwest Station in Eden Prairie. I'll be out taking photos as it moves along at a snails pace.

On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable

High-income neighborhoods think that low-income people moving in will lower property values.

Low-income neighborhoods think that high-income people moving in will raise rents.

We have a class segregation consensus.

Carver County, in conjunction with the Met Council, will expand Transit Link service to operate on weekends starting 9/6.

Looks like one will now be able to go to Baylor for their star parties, camp overnight, and come back the next day.

1 of 3 bike parking lots at the MN State Fair this week:

Evidence that the Twin Cities’ investment in a network of protected bike infrastructure is paying off.

More and more people are using bikes for more and more trips.

Hennepin County’s proposed layout for Lyndale Avenue S. falls short.

It’s not a people-first design. It’s a decorated, street-level parking lot, dusted with the occasional confetti of mode shift virtue signals.

No protected bikeways, 24/7 bus lanes, or green space throughout the entire corridor.

This is not an image the car companies want you to see.

Streets not just thoroughfares for vehicles but are vital social spaces for people and communities.

The Lyndale Ave public right of way is so massive. I went into this process thinking obviously everyone will be accommodated. But no, for some reason they want to mash bikes and pedestrians together. Make 'em fight.
My most charitable read of this is that they wanted to find a compromise design that technically satisfied everyone. Except in reality this is complete garbage for bike/ped and parking is maintained all along the street.
Best I can tell the county found a way to eliminate the bike path, while preserving their ability to say they haven't eliminated the bike path. Bizarre outcome.

Yesterday, in his 2026 budget proposal, Mayor Frey called for a 7.8% levy increase, raising $39 million to avoid layoffs or major spending cuts.

As a member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation, my job would be to block or approve this tax increase. So, what do I think? 🧵

The final concept design for Lyndale Ave is out and friends, it's really bad. They have a SHARED USE PATH on the east side of the street.

You don't put shared use paths in busy commercial areas, especially when this is in one of the densest neighborhoods in the entire state!

I've said it once and I'll say it again: we need to get past the concept that we can only make radical changes to street design during these once-a-century complete rebuilds.

"Fiscal responsibility" be damned, the alternatives are all more expensive in the long run
