Maybe you see my #PlowSidewalksToo hashtag and think, "Yeah, sure, sounds great but it would require a massive tax increase and expansion of the public payroll and no one is going to willingly sign on for that. Real shame, though."

So: a thread. 🧵

Just an annoying reminder that the unquenchable American thirst for oil, and the conquest and subjugation of other nations in futile attempts to satiate it, is brought to you in large part by our land-use patterns

Yep. Often when bike lanes are built, new sidewalks are built, like what was done on Shelbourne. SUPER functional.
Mobility lanes move more than just people on bikes and they often create much needed space that our minimal sidewalks lack.

Pulled up to a coffee shop with @malaclypse.bsky.social to find a couple locking up their bike and they said, "Yay! More bikers!" When has anyone in a parking lot ever said, "Yay! More drivers!"

Clowns will say it doesn't matter; we don't have the numbers to impeach.

You get the numbers by FORCING THE ISSUE. You make NOISE, you DEMAND, you NEVER STOP YELLING.

You do nothing? You get nothing.

Ignore the clowns. Call your fucking reps and tell them to do their jobs and IMPEACH.

Left voicemail with Schumer, Gillibrand, and my member in the House of Representatives demanding impeachment, conviction, removal. If someone as phone-averse as me* can do this, so can you. Tell you member in the House to file articles of impeachment.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Here's the American e-bike plan:

* Propose a bike lane in one part of town
* Let the "neighborhood council" shoot it down
* Record the resulting mayhem of e-bikes taking sidewalks
* Draft legislation requiring car insurance for bikes
* Watch demand evaporate
* Continue complaining about parking
"E-bikes and scooters displace 4x as much demand for oil as all of the EVs in the world"

And still no plans or incentives from our federal and provincial governments to help people choose bikes instead of cars. Quite the opposite, actually.

The only thing that welcoming migrants, immigrants, and refugees causes is grateful new Americans.
The easiest and cheapest way to lower the number of undocumented immigrants is to document them.

It costs $30-100k to deport a single person. For a fraction of that cost, we can pay immigration staffers and turn undocumented people into taxpaying citizens and domestic consumers.

We are *all* Real America in the same way a naturalized citizen who took his oath five seconds ago is exactly as much of a citizen as someone whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.
