Maybe you see my #PlowSidewalksToo hashtag and think, "Yeah, sure, sounds great but it would require a massive tax increase and expansion of the public payroll and no one is going to willingly sign on for that. Real shame, though."

So: a thread. 🧵

Can recommend cleats. Any kind is better than a slip & fall injury.

If the president cannot be sued while in office, then the president should not be able to file suit while in office.
The BBC faces legal threats from President Trump after a documentary allegedly misrepresented his Jan. 6, 2021, speech, leading to two top network officials' resignation.
Trump threatens BBC with lawsuit amid editing scandal fallout
Lawyers for Trump say the British government-supported broadcaster defamed the president in its report about Trump’s speech on Jan. 6, 2021.

If we designed roads for cars in the same way we design bike paths, we'd never have to worry about speeding again. Problem solved.

The thing about snow is that it proves that people do bike in the winter.

It ain't over yet. Call, email, fax.
To be clear: the deal they voted on to move forward last night still needs to be formally voted on in the Senate and House. If the eight are your senators, they should be hearing from you this morning!

This is what it's like for *everyone* in Canada.
In the US, the three levels of government spend more taxpayer money ($US 7,350/person) to provide healthcare to less than half the population than Canada does ($6,700) to cover everyone in the country. And Canada gets better results.

Sure seems like a winning message for Dems would be something like:

"Republican economic policy is to price as many Americans as possible out of food, health care, housing, and education."

Senator's office not accepting voicemails? Fax them. Seriously. You do not need to have a fax machine. Hit Schumer up, now.

Did you know that the City of Toronto has a snow and ice response plan focused on salting and plowing roads, sidewalks and bikeways in a sequence that prioritizes the safety and mobility of residents, and emergency and transit vehicles?

Sick people are cost centers. Private insurers have no reason to compete for cost centers, they compete for profit centers: healthy people.

This is so freaking good. 👇

As a new retiree, I never had the cottage-in-the-country retirement dream.

I want a cafe, grocery store, pharmacy, bike lanes, bus line, and MDs in walking distance. I want a place where rallies & protests are normal.

I want a functional *community.*

But have you ever had to park your car half a block further than you wanted to?

How come so many urbanists are so timid about using the word 'dangerous?'
Always reaching for the euphemism 'less safe' instead?

This is just the billionaire version of that suburban Letter-To-The-Editor staple,
"We went downtown for a game/show and got a parking ticket and we're never coming downtown again."

With lots of flight cancellations coming up, everyone be on the lookout for Thanksgiving refugees, especially students, who can't get home. Invite them to your table.

Good time for houses of worship to organize Thanksgiving potlucks. No sermons, just food and welcome.
