My wife and I, in our early 40s, going to dinner on one bike, because adding spice to life has become a priority.

She's reviewing the menu ahead of time. 🤳😉
To prison.
Kristi Noem has to go.
Gregory Bovino has to go.
Stephen Miller has to go.

That is not a parking lot light...

That is a high-mast interstate highway floodlight. It is designed to light up the road for cars driving 70mph, but it’s placed directly above residential apartments.

We're bathing people's bedrooms in industrial-grade light just to prioritize highway speed.

We've spent a ton of time talking about teens getting injured on e-bikes (or illegal e-motos).

We've heard that crash rates are skyrocketing. Marin County Dept of Health even set up a dashboard to see how many e-bike/e-moto crashes are happening.

But how many kids are getting hurt *in cars*?

Ah yes, nothing better than laying on the couch holding our newborn daughter, while reading multiple news stories warning about ai eradicating the job market in the next few years.

I don’t know how many people join Bluesky each day, but my sense is that more & more people are discovering the outstanding community/conversation here (best on social media) about better cities. I still think STARTER PACKS are a superpower. I’ve made many, but here’s my first again. Please share.

Damrak, Amsterdam in 1987 and today. From multiple lanes for motor traffic and car parking to just one lane, in one direction only, for cars exiting the city, and no car parking. Trams, cycle lanes and footways are in place in both directions

Cycle infrastructure in the Netherlands.

The cycleway continues across the side road, clearly signalling that drivers must give way. At the roundabout, both the cycleway and pedestrian crossings have priority, so motorists yield again.

Simple design, clear rules, safer streets.

Without riding my bike and walking for transportation, it would be very hard to work physical movement into my schedule.

I love that running errands or dropping my daughter off at school helps me stay active everyday.

In the Netherlands, cycling and public transport aren’t competitors—they’re teammates. Invest in one, and the other gets stronger.

Nowhere is this clearer than at railway stations, where every design decision sharpens the bike infrastructure network and makes the door-to-door journey even smoother.

This 384-metre route runs under the Montpelliers iconic square and is only for bikes. With this solution, cyclists can cross the center without conflicts or interaction with traffic. This increases safety and efficiency for cycle traffic.

I have a host of things that need to be done at the bike shop to my Urban Arrow. Estimated labor is about $290. I'm not even stressed because if it were our car, even the simplest thing would probably push $1000.

There are no immutable rules keeping streets like this in Europe. Our urban environment is a reflection of what we commit to build. We don't have to let cars sterilize our landscape. It's a choice.

Every cyclist experiences this.
In every city. Good infrastructure gives way to scary, uncomfortable, dangerous. It's why people don't ride bikes everywhere. They don't line having the sh!t scared of of them. Also they don't want their 5 & 12 year olds to get killed, nor their grandparents.

A fietsstraat in the Netherlands, where cyclists have priority and cars are guests. Important to reiterate that this isn’t just a “cyclists have priority” sign you can slap on any street - they’re only used on access roads with very low car traffic, usually only just for residents and access.
