Testing negative for the flu, but still physically recovering. I’d love to bike, but I’m not there yet. Letting @metrotransitmn.bsky.social drive today!

This morning I walked home over 35W. There was only ~1 inch of snow on the ground, but plows were already out doing their thing on the highway.

Meanwhile, the sidewalk I was on will likely not get cleared for hours or days.

We *all* need clear sidewalks in winter.

I wish I wasn’t stuck at home with the flu. I really really want to go ride my bike down the greenway right now! ❄️🚲❄️

"Sidewalks are not a distraction from the city’s mission. They are the ground-level test of whether Minneapolis truly works for everyone...Walking is not optional. It is how people reach buses and trains, cross neighborhoods, access businesses and age in place."

Opinion | Shoveling sidewalks should be a priority for Minneapolis
If the city wants people to use public transit and age in place, they have to be able to safely get around after it snows, William Hendricks writes.

All I want for Christmas 🎄 is for cars in cities to be forced to drive less than 20 mph and yield to people on foot and on bicycles and in strollers and using wheelchairs and walkers. These monsters think they can drive as fast as they possibly can everywhere because they are somehow important?

This is 404 Media's @jasonkoebler.bsky.social waving at himself through a Flock camera; one of 60 we learned was left exposed to the open internet. Not only could anyone with a link livestream it, but some admin portals were open with no login credentials required.

This is a policy failure by every city in Minnesota.

This gentleman and I had just gotten off the busiest bus line in the state. The entire sidewalk was this bad or worse.

Enforcement is not working. Community driven solutions leave too many areas out.

Municipal sidewalk clearing now.

I am committed to vigorously defending Minnesota’s medical providers who do incredible work to treat and care for all Minnesotans, including our trans neighbors. I have already taken the Trump Admin to court to stop them from scapegoating the trans community. I will not hesitate to do so again.

The ride home was cold and slow, and the studded tires came in clutch. However, it wasn’t as slick as I thought it was going to be. #MSPCyclecast

Pretty icy out today, especially on sidewalks and bike paths. Studs, good boots, and taking it slow help a lot. Stay upright out there. #MSPCyclecast

One of the great public works ironies: the county can spend a bunch of money to fix a terrible intersection, install a median, reduce traffic from 4 lanes to 2—but if that fucking smoke shop never shovels, you're still risking your neck by walking this route to the grocery store.

Sat in a Mexican restaurant on Lake Street. The door was locked to keep ICE out; someone was posted by the door looking outside and letting customers in. Whistles went off outside. Everyone went on high alert. People scattered.

Went to another Latino business up the road. Their door was locked too.

Reported this property twice this year so far for not clearing the sidewalk. After the second “Advisory Sent by Inspector,” they finally took care of it. Over-salted as hell, but at least it’s passable now. Apologies to every dog’s paws.

Reported this car blocking the Hennepin Ave bikeway exit onto Bryant last evening. The report was closed as “Case resolved – drove around and found no violation.”

It was still there this morning, so I reported it again. 😔
