Apologies to everyone on my TBR, but my brain has only let me re-read a handful of smutty stories for the past few weeks. I'll try to defrag my brain, especially since I got bookmail from @danifinnwrites.bsky.social and @cerecermurphy.bsky.social today! And owe @authorkaraj.bsky.social a review!

I don't know who the guy behind Mamdani is, but his smile made me smile.
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

One lesson from the Epstein–Mandelson affair is that we need to stop routinely rehabilitating political careers after serious scandals.

When politicians knowingly engage in grave ethical wrongdoing, that should permanently end their political careers. Being "talented" should not override that.

Yup yup. Also, if they really can't tell and a 16yo seems as mature and adult to them as someone their own age... then they should date someone their own age because they've already said those would be the same, and only one of them is legal. Even taking their word, that defense is still bullshit.
when i was a 16yo girl i thought i was an adult. coaching 12-17yo girls as a 28yo really hammered home how much i was wrong about being an adult at 16 and how obvious it is to actual adults that a 16yo is not an adult. if they say they cannot tell they are lying because they are a creep.

Ngl, the more I thought about the original post overnight, the more annoyed I got.
There are no hard and fast craft rules. You cannot rule your way into bestseller status.
For artistic endeavors, it will always be process > product
You have to practice your craft forever to be successful, sorry 🤷‍♂️
The writer Threads post about gatekeeping feels like ragebait (as much of Threads is), but I do want to say that the best way to better your craft is to read and watch things you really enjoy and dissect them to figure out how to do something similar in your own works.

Loot that drops after defeating me:

A guaranteed A on a biology exam

A cat toy

Individual keys from a keyboard

A spicy queer book

A copy of Strunk and White

1% chance of epic drop: Sylphrena, animal companion and Fluffernutter ...crap I just made myself a target, didn't I?

"Sure, ICE is bad, but we need to deport illegal immigrants"

No you don't.

If immigration enforcement leads to concentration camps and roving death squads, maybe it's time to just get rid of the concept of illegal immigration entirely. You've tried it, it's a bad idea in practice, so bin it.

I'm 45 years old and the Golden Age stuff made me so fucking annoyed in 1995. Like man just THINK about what you're telling teenage girls to read because I promise that you probably shouldn't be doing it. 😑
Yup. This is also why I get annoyed when people start suggesting "golden age" science fiction titles to people who are new the genre and are asking for suggestions. You want to turn a modern 15-year-old off science fiction forever, recommend stories that were old when her grandparents were her age.
When people ask how to get into GA SF I always say that the right way is via some of those fat "Best Of" short fiction collections

the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

The public made noise for Liam Ramos and it got him released from Dilley.

Now we must make noise for 7 year old Diana Crespo.

Her parents were taking her for emergency medical care when ICE grabbed them, and she’s rotting in the camp sick and exposed to measles.

Get them out!

A'ight kids, it's time for a thread giving you the lowdown on Draft2Digital.

1: They were founded by right-wing Xtians.

2: They donate masses of cash to their church and missions.

3: They view ROMANCE and EROTICA as the same thing, *and* as "dangerous".

⬇️
Unfortunately they are blocking all erotica from distribution. Very sad to see a champion for indie bookstores take such a restrictive stance on fiction.

My friend and I were bitching about fascism and I complained that whoever said if we didn't study history we were doomed to repeat it didn't add that if other people didn't study it, we were also doomed to repeat it. And she said, 'Yeah, it's a group project!' ...Explains. So. Much.

FYI, Red Ogre Reviews also claim ridiculous rights to any work you *submit* to them, before they've even considered whether they want to publish it.
apologies for lack of alt text but i am yoo tired to type all this again

@ogre.red thinks terms if service are bullshit and licensing for poetry is unimportant because "who would steal a poem"

my advice would be to avoid doing business with this person
