Fun fact: Many of the indie band posters & zines I collected or published during the 80s and 90s are on display in the High Fidelity film. The production design team borrowed them from myself and other Chicago critics / music folks. I enjoy annoying people by pointing out which ones are mine 😆
This is of course a crucial plot point in "High Fidelity" (film)

In fairness to England, there was simply no way they could have known that pitches in Australia would bounce more and that the boundaries would be further back than in England. #ashes

I loved One Battle After Another’s ending on first viewing, but the second time around I realized *how much* is going on in that scene beyond it being a really great car chase. So I had to write something about the brilliance of The River of Hills

My next book will be a biography of Jack Nicholson, written as an epic story of the transformation of the movie industry and modern masculinity from the 1950s to the present, with Nicholson as the main character. The title: Leading Man.

RIP the legendary David Stratton who not only was monitored by ASIO for suspected communist sympathies but also once gave a film - 'The Replacements' - zero stars because "It is a film which celebrates strike-breakers and scabs". Read the transcript here: letterboxd.com/margaret_dav...

Impossible to quantify how important David Stratton was for several generations in all of his hats. Festival programmer, censorship fighter, critic, television personality. A massive loss to Australian film culture.
