In a more rational society the thing being slammed as 'radical' by commentators would be the reality of 100,000+ properties in Melbourne sitting empty while increasing numbers are dying on the streets, rather than a policy aiming to ensure those properties are actually used to house people.

Under a half way decent government this could be an opportunity to turn the corner on the housing crisis by building thousands of new high quality public housing units in key locations across Australia - a flagship project that could be repeated on other unused or under-utilised government land.

Definitely not ideal that the political class has collectively decided that property investors are more deserving of financial assistance than the homeless, renters, and people experiencing housing insecurity. Another aspect of the one-sided class war being waged against us in this country!
