We built a calculator that doesn't work, but don't worry, it's also a plagiarism machine that will tell you to kill yourself. It runs on the world's oceans and costs 10 trillion dollars.

I genuinely thought that PLURIBUS would have to settle for a small audience and critical plaudits like BETTER CALL SAUL, so I am happy to see it hitting so big. Also happy for Rhea Seehorn, who is so, so, so good on BCS—the beating and worried heart of the show—to be getting top-level recognition.

Can we resolve in 2026 to stop sharing videos of people ranting directly at the camera while sitting in the front seats of their parked cars? I get that it can be cathartic to watch someone badly summarize a news story and then yell "WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE, PEOPLE?!" at the end, but it's not good.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Theory: AI adoption is driven in large part by users’ years of growing frustration with the gradual destruction of web search (Google, within Amazon, etc.), which made them turn to what seemed to them to be a newly accurate web search tool that wasn’t overrun with ads or sponsored results

So, ANACONDA is about two guys who want to make a movie called ANACONDA? Is the new ANACONDA’s ANACONDA meant to be a remake of ANACONDA? Or is ANACONDA instead a reboot in which ANACONDA never existed and these two guys wanna make an ANACONDA that’s all-new and has nothing to do with ANAC- [stroke]

Books, poems, film, etc. may require retraining a brain to slow down.

And it's important bc while scrolling social media pushes the happy button, it rarely provides actual happiness. It's like food with no nutrients; your brain ate a lot but it's still starving for things that scrolling can't give.

I now reflexively think of Stranger Things as protoslop, the antecedent to AI videos about nonexistent mall McDonaldlands. Judy lays out a timeline of how its relatively innocuous nostalgia bait devolved into content extrusion detached from anything that made anyone care — the slop funnel to a tee.
Stranger Things started out as a fun, clever, well-made little distraction from the hellscape of 2016. Then we all started living full-time in the Upside Down, a franchise-thirsty streamer stretched one season's worth of story into four, and—much like our brains—the show never recovered.
'Stranger Things' Was a Casualty of the Franchise Machine
How the nostalgic, well-made treat we couldn't help devouring amid the traumas of 2016 devolved into a content factory

When I was on CNN's northeast desk, the first job at 6a every morning was to read the local papers. That guided some of what the massive CNN machine followed every day.

When those papers die, CNN doesn't hire new regional reporters. What you get instead is more panel shows, more punditry.
"The newspaper industry served as a feeder for our entire news media ecosystem. So when we lose those newspapers, we've lost that journalism. In the early 2000s, we had 40 journalists per 100,000 people. We're now down to 8 journalists per 100,000 people," says @victorpickard.bsky.social.
