Really wish I had gotten a better shot of this but holding a phone that says “who else was just ‘following orders’?” up to a riot cop is hard as hell

Hey everybody. Let's Schumer* the hell out of this day!

*capitulate to everyone we see, until we get home, knowing that we completely failed the day, our families, and our friends, and go into our bedroom closet and cry ourselves to a troubled sleep, huddled among the dirty clothes in humiliation

Very pleased that @rollingstone.com is running an excerpt of WITHOUT CONSENT today, focusing on the making and impact of a 1980 television movie on the Rideout case featuring a young Linda Hamilton and Mickey Rourke.

Parents: do today’s young kids still Have Feelings about the animated Robin Hood and/or Maid Marian from Disney’s 1973 version? It seemed like a rite of passage for a while there.

GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES. An absolute masterpiece: focused, gentle, elegiac. Such love amid such loss.

- This guy doesn’t actually believe these things
- He knows Republicans and their donors do
- He is shamelessly making a play to fascists so he can stay funded
- His only belief is in his self-interest
- Tech bros are soulless oligarchs and should be deposed
I’m sorry, but a goofy looking guy who grew up a privileged son of a pediatrician and has a phd in social theory from the university of Goethe and started in tech by investing an inheritance left to him by his grandfather talking about being a “dude” is very, very funny to me.

You might enjoy these quotes from Falk talking in general about Columbo's "reaching into pockets" business. (In that same interview he told me about directing "Blueprint for Murder" and getting help from Cassavetes and Spielberg.)

PLURIBUS is great so far for many reasons, not least of which you can practically feel Vince Gilligan’s excitement at getting to remind people he was responsible for some of the best stuff on THE X-FILES

Happy 18th anniversary to NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, one of the best movies of the century. In a world where happiness is distinctly disconnected from action (i.e., bad things happen to good people), true morality means trying to do the right thing anyway, even knowing that you might pay for it.

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

The real trouble is that a significant portion of those 77 million people agree that he is incompetent—hell, they never even thought he was competent to begin with—but they would rather willingly vote for a fool than a Democrat.
Seriously? He has no idea how insurance works or how to govern. I’ll never get over 77 million people thinking a man this incompetent belongs anywhere near the Oval Office.
