"I’m either a widower or a divorcee." said Macaulay Culkin pitching a Home Alone sequel: "I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out... and he’s the one setting traps for me." https://bit.ly/4omSrSn

You guys interested in more stuff I pulled from Ron Moore’s ‘90s AOL chats with DS9 fans?

This was in reaction to a Season 5 ep retconning Dr. Bashir’s history. OH NO! The sacred CANON was violated!

Ron has the correct perspective (and more patience than I would have.)

I used to be a lead bookseller at one of the biggest bookshops in the UK. We had a reputation for being able to "break" books, i.e. build hype for books we got behind and make them start selling.

That often involved handselling just 9 or 10 copies over a couple of days.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

lol no why should I accept the technology my students are being misled into using to bypass the actual process of learning anything? Which is making my relationship with them so much worse? Which makes my teaching life so much worse?

Yeah bro I totally love it 🙄
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you?

I think I'll be alright 😏

Reading Krakenblood, by @malkydel.bsky.social

He crafts his prose like poetry. His scenes aren’t described so much as woven with his words. It moves slowly but the reader is well rewarded for lingering.

Marvel has the stench of a company that feels like it still wants to be in the 2000s. Probably born out of the fact that all the people who worked there during the time are still there.

Can all these people just leave already?

According to the article, the former sister-in-law split from her brother. Given how psychotic Leavitt is, wouldn't surprise me that she sicced ICE on her former SIL.

We need to bring back the 80s-90s thing where films start with the main character realizing they are late for work/school/curfew and bicycling/running through a scenic filming location while an easy-listening pop song plays and the intro credits flash by

The stock market's gains are being overwhelmingly driven by seven Big Tech companies who have invested heavily in AI, which has made tech oligarchs even wealthier.

But when that AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag.

Be warned.

This second AOL interaction is Ron Moore responding to a fan upset with Kirk’s death in GENERATIONS.

In responding Ron gets to have his say about how killing off a character doesn’t mean a writer doesn’t respect a character. (This is a frequent charge against writers in these situations)

More Ron Moore AOL fan interactions from the 90s.

The first one deals with fan entitlement - the delusion that every true fan believes as they do and that they have ownership over the show because they care so much.

The first official confirmation that Noem herself made the decision not to turn the planes around. A couple hundred men were tortured as a result — and soon after, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Trump admin’s Alien Enemies Act process was a total violation of due process.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

Folks forget that the ACA *was* the compromise position. It was never full on heal reform so much as health insurance reform, but it was what the political reality of the time permitted.

That said, Medicare for all, and let the shareholders answer to God.

Impeachment isn’t just an option, it’s a necessity. I know firsthand the lengths Trump is willing to go in order to silence dissent — but is it working?

I swore an oath to the Constitution in 1986. I've upheld it through 25 years of service and every day since I retired.

If Trump's trying to intimidate me, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to our country to be silenced by bullies who care more about power than the Constitution.

I think Democrats should double down on trans rights now. It's obvious that most voters don't care about it so you might as well stick with your principles and goad Republicans into focusing on it at the expense of everything else so they're the ones who look like freaks.
