You ever think it's weird that, for all that they were obviously pretty educated people, the framers of the Constitution just started writing at Article II? Like they somehow didn't know the number I existed?? It might be cool if there were some Article I powers. Wonder what those would be.

it is -10 here today. I was supposed to go do a volunteer shift standing outside loading groceries into people’s cars to deliver to families stuck at home. just got a call not to come in because they have too many volunteers already. if you were wondering if the cold would stop us.

my partner (250m) is claiming he wants to steal from our neighbor (1061f) because he's in his "teenage years" and is undergoing "mood swings". wibta if we broke up=
I asked Elissa Slotkin about this at an event and she said the US was in its “difficult teenage years” and allies needed to accept “mood swings”

No, I don’t think I will

I really think at its heart philosophy is one giant battle, taking place over many eras and nations, between people who are basically pleasant bureaucrats and people who are sexy murder poets, and it’s both super important and super boring that the pleasant bureaucrats must win.

Also there's a roving Low Trust maniac contingency of the electorate who can be given right or left aesthetics and who basically any faction opposed to whatever has the local aesthetic of Normality can draw on for support. Imo I presently think incorporating them in your coalition is never worth it.

For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.

Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

In the text that follows, I will outline, in great detail, 9 things the Massachusetts state legislature should do right now to respond to the ICE crackdown. And then, I'll talk about one or two things...

This really feels like a coda to @trufelman.bsky.social ‘s latest season, wherein the special forces use their uniform exemptions to wear the GOOD camo and then it’s cool because special forces are wearing it and everyone else wants in, et cetera. The cycles of fashion begin anew
Now the actual military has to dress like it’s not the military cuz federal law enforcement agencies dress too much like the military

If you’re American, the chances you had family members fighting against fascism in WWII is Very High. 12% of the US population served, a whole lot more held things together at home. Be the type of ancestor that, in 80 years, they look back at you with pride & gratitude.

I went on a ride along with Will today because I was trying to understand how a mobile patrol works. If you've ever fantasized about being either Spider-Man or Ned Leeds I would recommend going to Defend612 to volunteer. (Spider-Man: patrol. Ned Leeds: dispatch/notetaking/plate checks.)
I don’t want to jinx anything, but ICE presence in South Minneapolis has been MASSIVELY down the last two days, and also far less militarized. Very few masks and uniforms, and efforts to disguise their vehicles. Community watch has been suffocating them, I think.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
