one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things

"20' Tall Stacked Skeleton Crawling Flat Broke," by Caroliner Rainbow Stewed Angel Skins (bonus long band name!)
Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

Emily Heller, an eyewitness, is speaking out to set the record straight. Officers were screaming at Renee Nicole Good, “Move, move, move.”

So she moved, and they shot her multiple times? Then Noem and Trump branded her a domestic terrorist. Does everyone see how absolutely insane that sounds?

I really like Mimic, and he does have moments in almost every one of his films, but yeah, he's someone I like the idea of more than the actual work.
del Toro is a fan, and he makes fannish work. The few times he's escaped that trap he's really touched something special, but I think the race is run and this is just who he is as an artist now. Too bad.

I for one think the Epstein Ballroom will be magnificent. I love the decor theme of “what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn.” And giving it a theme song everyone will associate with it is a stroke of brilliance! “Thank Heaven for Little Girls” is very catchy.

“Rather than merely a slur for droids, ‘clanker’ was in fact an ironic statement of pride re-appropriated by the sentient machines of the Confederacy…..to see it as wholly negative is to elide the discursive complexity of identity construction in the Clone Wars….”

"hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue" anat
Like is that first guy almost certainly a racist asshole? Yes! But they felt a need to perform deniability, soften their rhetoric, and to an extent had other overall ideological goals; there are lots of bad politics that aren’t fascist. But now *all* these guys are fascists *and will tell you so*.

I'd also identify a third position, "I see or imagine there are meaningful uses for LLMs, but that they are relatively few (not 'everything') and relatively small (+10%, not +10000%) and so may not support the cost of model building and inference or the valuation of these companies."
I think a lot of people who are reasonable AI skeptics are saying things like “I don’t see a reliable use for LLMs in areas I’m an expert in” and that those folks are quite distinct from people who argue that LLMs don’t have capabilities that they clearly do

Feels a bit churlish to point out that this is a clause, not the whole sentence, since it's almost as bad in context: "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."
