MSD have been delaying their December benefits data release due to data processing issues but they shared headline numbers yesterday. If the data is correct, this is a huuuge increase. We now have nearly 1 in 7 adults on a working age benefit. Link in ALT. (🧵 1/n)

LOL. But also... I find the "urban elite" argument hilarious. How do these ppl consistently fail to grasp that a lot of cyclists get around on bikes for affordability purposes? Like sure, I'm so elite that I can't afford a car. And my "utopia" is... not getting run over by cars. I know, so radical!
New cyclist finds out he's an anti-car urban elite who has no life and wants some made up bike utopia.

I’ve done some catalogue searching and am fairly confident in saying that 5/10 titles in this list do not exist (1, 2, 4, 5 and 7).
Sloppy, unacceptable, and a real kick in the guts to real authors with real books they’d love people to buy and read!
#4 sounds like a lovely book but I didn't write it. Have had whānau up and down the country send me clippings lol
Whoever put together this list that has been circulated to regional papers, didn't fact check.

Just want to note that the local paper in Wellington spent an entire term of council proactively and in many cases irrationally campaigning against any urbanist initiatives whatsoever and the result has been a mayor perhaps slower on it but not opposed & a council table substantially more urbanist.

Another objectively stupid decision by this narrow-minded government whose vision for progress is simply to make NZ dull again by sucking the life out of arts.
I have a friend with a PhD in Art History and most of her doctorate was in the chemistry labs and working with lasers (her topic was conservation focused). But importantly she started with loving art and art history at high school.
Just a sad and narrow minded decision. #nzpol
