Paywall lifted: At every turn, the Govt has opted for whatever would actually lead to more pollution and a warmer world – even if it costs more, jeopardises NZ’s reputation, overturns a campaign promise or clashes with the Govt’s other priorities.

Righto, we had 50 years of state sanctioned child abuse, we had a former Minster of Immigration under investigation for sexual abuse of children, we have the former Act party pres. convicted of sexual abuse, we had a collection of top police men covering for sex offenders, we had cops making false

Just want to note that the local paper in Wellington spent an entire term of council proactively and in many cases irrationally campaigning against any urbanist initiatives whatsoever and the result has been a mayor perhaps slower on it but not opposed & a council table substantially more urbanist.

Another objectively stupid decision by this narrow-minded government whose vision for progress is simply to make NZ dull again by sucking the life out of arts.
I have a friend with a PhD in Art History and most of her doctorate was in the chemistry labs and working with lasers (her topic was conservation focused). But importantly she started with loving art and art history at high school.
Just a sad and narrow minded decision. #nzpol

Completely agree with this. A Minister who believes all kids brains develop the same and that outdoor ed offers nothing worthwhile let alone for the economy when they go on to find work is ignoring evidence that proves otherwise.

Once Benjamin Doyle is not an MP they should undertake a relentless slate of defamation actions against each and every person who has baselessly accused them of being a paedophile, or implied as much, up to and including the Deputy Prime Minister

26 years after Georgina Beyer became the first openly trans Member of Parliament, our first non-binary MP is forced to resign following death threats and ongoing abuse. This is such an indictment of NZ politics. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Green MP Benjamin Doyle resigns from Parliament
They said they had been on a "journey of healing" which could not be done while in Parliament.

This is getting to pretty extreme levels of lying. Councils have consulted pretty extensively on things the community will accept them cutting, including what central govt considers 'nice to haves,' and have been directed not to cut anything more. At this stage the whining is coming from govt. 🙄
Finance Minister Nicola Willis says councils should stop whining, and cut costs
Rates rises are pushing up inflation and councils need to stop the waste, the Finance Minister says.

What I'd say to you is that kiwis just need to make better choices. Why don't they just sell a couple of their rentals and move to a safer quarter acre section somewhere nice? Build themselves a smart McMansion with a pool? Seriously, the country has lost its mojo.
