One like and I'll go the pub.
The Kiwi urge to find the New Zealand angle in absolutely everything here is just a bit questionable.

First update for 2026!

Whilst we haven't had any public council meetings this week, plenty is still happening:

Great to have Puku Pies here in Johnsonville. Cr Compton, Cr Randle and myself went down for a late lunch today to check it out:

The name will take a little bit of getting used to but what a great local story for Hnry Stadium.

Growing from an idea into a fully fledged business employing over 150 people in just 8 years and now taking naming rights over our stadium.

New name for Wellington’s stadium revealed
From March, Wellingtonians will be watching sporting events and big music gigs at Hnry Stadium after the sole trader accountancy firm sealed a five-year deal.

Last week I chalked up a brand-new issue. An older resident relied on Google's AI results for accurate parking information in Wellington. The problem was the information Gemini provided was outright wrong, resulting in them receiving a ticket.

Why you should treat AI summaries ‘like a drunk uncle at the pub’
When you ask Google how accurate its AI overview is, its response doesn’t mince words.

A summer holiday at the campground is one of those quintessential memories that bonds so many of us Kiwi together.

The situation in Mt Maunganui cuts deep. I am hoping desperately for positive news.
In Wellington we’re seeing the shocking scenes further up the country, hoping for the best in the search for survivors, in awe of those helping on the ground, and thinking of every affected community and family. On days like this kiwis pull together, because we’re all in this together 💔

Micromobility update 🛴🚲

Feeling for an elderly constituent today. They've googled WCC parking restrictions, been given wrong information out of Gemini, acted on it and recieved a ticket.

Glad to finally see a politician with the guts to stand up and represent extraordinarily wealthy property owners with pools 💪

Unfunded government mandates cost councils collectively hundreds of millions of $ in NZ.

Both Labour and National have responsibility here but Labour have committed to ending this practice. If govt want to cap rates, they must do the same.

RNZ doing the lords work here. Bloxham posted an incredibly defamatory post about one of their staff and for once he might just face the consequences of his actions. This is a repeated pattern of behavior that needs to stop.

Absolutely wild privacy breach from booking.com. Recieved a scam message through WhatsApp with full details of an upcoming reservation yet no notification from booking.com that there has been a breach of customer data.

"I don't mind where, as long as I'm Mayor and as long as I'm Mayor I don't mind where"

From a TV skit about him when he went from Mayor of Waitamata to Mayor of Invercargil.

Also, people talk about NZ's Mamdani, check out Shadbolt in the 80s and what he did to voter turnout.

If the government introduces 'move on' orders, they must be married with an influx of social support otherwise they'll be little more than a band-aid.

I've said it before and will say it again, Seton Nossiter Park is an absolute gem.

It's at risk of being substantially dug up and replaced with a 4 lane highway. NZTA have advised the Petone to Grenada Link will go through the reserve but detail of where is yet to be released.

Cautious optimism is the vibe for 2026.

Having our Civic heart beating again with Te Matapihi, City Gallery and council relocating nearby will be transformational.

Add in work at Reading, Amora and Band Rotunda too = more reason for optimism.
