What makes Gavin Newsom such a skilled politician is that he stands up to Trump’s bullying with piping hot memes AND is able to agree with Trump about policy

Gov. Gavin Newsom: ‘I disagree’ with calls to abolish ICE
The 2028 presidential contender came out against calls to dismantle ICE after an agent fatally shot a Minneapolis woman.

Read this 🧵
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Me, sitting in front of my computer, overwhelmed, under-rested, with a brain that's being slowly poisoned by a constant infusion of infuriating, terrifying news and clumsy fascist propaganda masquerading as news.

"Only Congress has the power to declare war, unless we're on vacation."
Congress will reconvene in one week.

When we return, we need four Republicans in Congress to stand with us and reassert that Congress, and only Congress, has the power to authorize military action against Venezuela.

The new year cannot bring a new endless war over regime change.

2025 has been an incredibly hard year for trans people. And yet... the political project to erase us is failing. In spite of them having so many levers of power, many of us have continued to thrive, and new pathways open up every day to get around the attacks.

My case for hope for 2026.
The Case For Hope: Transgender Rights Going Into 2026
This last year has been one of the hardest years for transgender people in memory. Somehow, though, I'm feeling hope going into 2026.

The “yelling at strangers” phase of the Internet was fun while it lasted. But with the advance of AI, that age is coming to an end. Do not engage in the era of “yelling at robots on the internet.” No good can come of it.

There's a lot of talk about how "it's inevitable" and "everyone's using it" in regards to gAI and I think it's pretty clear folk are misjudging just how much hatred there is toward it, the more the industry fucks with our jobs, tech, prices, privacy.

You use this shit & your blacklisted to me.

If you're not trans, I don't think I can fully explain how important this is.

It's so powerful that one of the most circulated science media publications in the world has come out and said "trans children are real and providing transition care improves their lives." That's groundbreaking.
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

Oh boy, I think some folk should have a look here and rid themselves of this person from their timeline.
I somehow missed that Dan Savage was on Bluesky now. If you missed the memo, consider this your reminder that Dan Savage is a racist transphobe who has allied himself with Jesse Singal (!) and written racist screeds attacking Black people while dismissing the racism of white gays.

“it’s reasonable to ask questions about trans girls in sports” was always intended to mainstream transphobia.

It’s absurd that people fell for it. Democrats are constantly letting oppressors set the terms of debate instead of just saying “no, fuck you.”

Fucking Jack Reed is on this list
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

Who is harming our young people? The shooter, but also the government, companies that lobby against gun regulation, the NRA, and the people who live comfortably under white cis het capitalist dominant culture.

We have young people in the United States who have now survived multiple school shootings in their very brief lifetime.

This goes beyond even violence as merely a pattern. It is now the norm.
