CHOTINER: So you learned this technique in school?

DR: No, not— listen it was good advice. Pagliacci was in town.

C: Right. Is it standard to give advice before learning a patient’s name?

DR: Now look

because intelligent, interrogative interviewing can get you shut out of access, most U.S. media - especially TV news - actively *discourages* it in political reporting. Contrast the UK, where the unavoidable status of the BBC paradoxically meant it could be much bolder, setting the norm for others.
like i'm not trying to be mean to op here but Isaac is literally a good interviewer who can use subtext and knows what he's trying to get at. This is the baseline competency I'd expect most access reporters to be at in a normal universe. But we don't live in that.
Does Chotiner cast some kind of a spell over his interviewees?

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

basically, why care about this at all if the “community” of interest doesn’t give a shit about something they claimed for years was an all-important matter of national security?
The GPU export-controls being undone to crickets is also incredibly rage-inducing. At this rate I'm not even sure if they'll pretend to give two hoots about the fall of Taiwain

Sixteen years in MN and I’ve never set foot in this miraculous place: a midwestern dive bar where everyone is Hmong, with an attached pool hall, EDM stage, and where you can order pho until midnight. The idea people would want to kick immigrants out of this region is insane.

I just skimmed that Utah trans bill. These people are absolutely obsessed with the minutia of other people's junk. It's sick.
