Spain has effectively made the argument that their economy NEEDS migration. They don’t have the hostile environment which every govt. has kept despite Windrush promises. This could be us if we weren’t cooked.
Why Spain is breaking the mold in Europe -
choosing regularisation instead of MAGA mass deportations!!

Two reasons: morality & pragmatism.

Astonishingly it turns out criminals are human, and therefore actually do have rights. I don't need to but I will also say - if they can decide a class of person is exempt from human rights AND can decide if you are part of that class it's extremely bad news.

This is how the establishment "left" (scare quotes intended) have been functioning for at least a decade. Intense obsessive factionalism and career orientation over policy everywhere.

It's why minority groups are so fucked by it. If everything is about who your friends are principles don't matter.
Labour's ruling committee, which is stuffed full of allies of Keir Starmer and Morgan McSweeney, has just blocked Andy Burnham from standing to be an MP in Gorton and Denton.

The odds of Labour losing this previously safe seat to Reform now look much higher

Ultimately you're not supposed to believe it. It not mattering is the point. The bolder the lie, the greater the impunity. The ultimate victory for evil is not convincing you, it's the truth being irrelevant.
We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun

Here we fucking go again, treating it like the white & gold v blue & black dress & isn't it WEIRD how the secret police street executionioners & their enablers are seeing something completely different to the footage of a street execution that we can all see ourselves. A difference of opinion is all

The BBC is lost
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

I'm honestly less mad at the President, who is clearly not well, that I am at his outriders and enablers.

They see messages like this and then, with straight faces, go on television or write op-eds retroactively constructing grand strategy justifications.

Pathetic.

This is actually important: Trump (as far as anyone can tell) doesn't believe that *anything* is on the level. He doesn't as much oppose democracy and the rule of law as believe that they've always been a fairy tale that only foolish dupes fall for.
Norwegian PM Støre says Trump repeatedly raises—complains about, pleads for, and demands—the Nobel Peace Prize every time they meet. Støre gives same answer each time: decision is made independently by Norwegian Nobel Committee, with no role for Norwegian gov—a concept Trump appears unable to grasp.

These so-called "patriotic" 🇬🇧newspapers who brought you Brexit were never really patriotic at all.

They are driven by a disdain for Britain's European neighbours, and a fawning obsession with America.

They do not really want 🇬🇧 to be sovereign. They're content being a 🇺🇸vassal.

I was an international conference with university leaders in Korea last year. Everyone at my table had studied in the US, and associated it with democratic values.
This was how soft power worked, but it only worked when the American actions broadly (and even imperfectly) aligned with the values.
Simon Kuper in today’s FT on the bamboozled blue-suited governing elite: “Some tribe members did stints at US universities … and fell for a country that’s now outside their circle of trust.”

Blue suit Klaas Knot, also FT today:

The double pardon really gives away the game. Adriana Camberos started her second round of fraud just weeks after her first pardon. She was charged, convicted, imprisoned…and pardoned again. Trump supporters are permitted unlimited crimes, while the rest of us can get beaten by the secret police.
President Trump quietly issued clemency grants this week, including to a California woman he had pardoned once before and a man whose daughter had donated millions to a Trump super PAC.
