One interesting wrinkle here is that Bad Bunny chose to perform in Spanish at a live performance, while France's most recent cultural win (Clair Obscur), while very much influential, wasn't played by most people with the French voice cast in mind.

No but tbf school hours are a finite resource and every time someone suggests something should be taught in schools they should have to say what they think should make way for it, so on that basis I quite like the original article lol

I mean a big thing too, is where do those Brits tend to go to in Spain and how helpful/necessary is good Spanish there compared to how having passable French is when visiting where tend to go to in France?

In my experience they don't *push* British children to learn any other language.
Lessons start too late and are too few, and virtually nobody remembers any of it after leaving school. It's tokenism.

I despair at media coverage of a lot of things, but I do feel like sometimes there's a tendency to misread a "please don't get us sued - ed" disclaimer as a defence of the person or organisation in question

Started with the adaptation of the first game, and it's making me appreciate how well localised the game was. Stuff like translating "Super High School Level" to "Ultimate". It loses some of its meaning, but the more accurate translation in English is just a mouthful

Anecdotal data: my Mum is unsure if Starmer should go or not, but it's largely out of a sense of confusion as to why the Epstein scandal is seeing a ton of fallout in Britain but not in America. I did point out to her that the fallout is more Europe-wide than just Britain, but I kinda get her point.

Realising how much psychic damage TOW2 discussion did to me. I've seen the same amount of people claim "nothing changed from the first game" as people claiming "it's so different from the first game it may as well be a different series"
I rarely dip into the Outer Worlds subreddit nowadays because it depresses me, but this attitude is just so anti-art
