this should go without saying but if you were one of the lucky few we did get out of Afghanistan during the withdrawal and we got you out because you'd been working with us, deportation back is likely a death sentence.

Union forces had suffered some 5,800 casualties but inflicted twice that on the rebels. When a chaplain asked General Thomas whether the dead should be sorted and buried by state in the new military cemetery, the Virginian who stayed loyal replied "Mix 'em up. I'm tired of states' rights.” (21

I just love the meta message of “this guy has so many fucking medals he can’t even arrange them in the right order,” and the fact that to prove your case you have to keep showing this pic of all his cool medals and asking people to look extremely closely at it and study what they all are

Oh my God, this so much. It can be even more annoying when it’s an opinion you somewhat agree with
Always funny when you can pinpoint the exact moment a YouTuber articulated a specific criticism because all of a sudden every discussion has it come up with identical phrasing when no one has mentioned it before.

Yup. I think my friend group did an impressive job staying connected throughout the worst of it, but there was absolutely a shift. It didn’t help that we moved from our 20s to our 30s during COVID, so there would’ve been a reduction anyway, but I think it was sharper than it would’ve been
this is far too common to be dismissed as anecdota tbh. the sheer number of clubs and social groups that couldn't survive remote, or stayed permanently remote, had a huge impact on the social lives of like 100 million americans bsky.app/profile/adis...
this is just anecdotal but among my social circle like 90% of regularly scheduled in-person hangouts simply imploded over COVID and never returned. it's way, way harder to start these things than end them.

Oh my god they made a show just for me 🥹
This show is great, every episode is like "I am 73 years old and dependent on a CPAP machine. I moved to the middle of Blood Bear Death Ravine, seven thousand miles from the nearest generator. I am morally opposed to hunting and farming, and my budget is $16.34. Please send help." 10/10, no notes.

As a lot of the people I'm subtweeting are men, I am sympathetic that some will have the mindset of "it's not my place to talk over women on a feminist issue", but given how often cis feminists who don't agree with the GC consensus get ignored, or even iced out, too, it's misguided

i know this will shock a lot of you but movies can actually be bad. like, not bad as in "oh i don't this character's choices or this vibe isn't for me" but bad in "there is no logical connection between the scenes i'm being presented with"

i'm sorry but i hate this shit. i like genre films a lot. it's like, the whole premise of my podcast. but there's nothing about being a fun and light genre film that means it must be poorly constructed or even lack an actual protagonist.
Or, movies are art/entertainment and that means wildly different things to different people.

Returning to this, Kale and Osborne deserve so much credit not just for their excellent reporting, but also for including the bit about Norris-Clark not believing in gravity, because in between stories of dying newborns I really needed the VERY loud laugh that got out of me

I would argue that midwifery is actually the oldest profession. A number of other mammals have similar practices of checking in on herd members labouring. We have the capacity to help each other and we have always done this. THAT is natural. To help is to be human.

People love to pretend like pastel QAnon and RFK and anti-vaxx moms are just a function of bored privilege and ignorance, but the reality is much more complex.

These anti-medical birth movements cross class and race lines and exploit very real gendered trauma from medical sexism related to birth.
