Actually what are the rules about keeping a bit of a stone wall from a monastery as a good luck charm? Because it feels like theft but it was just in the grass.
Also I do keep a bit of the stone wall from the Abbey at Gethesemane next to my Merton books so I can make it a two-fer if that's allowed.

Actually now I'm really curious if anyone has an estimate of this number.
There are, what, a couple hundred folks in the world at any time actually allowed to be in BSL-4? There are not that many people working with those things right?

Kuang's Katabasis is a funny read when you're actually the kind of person that had the sense to change advisors in grad school because reasons*. Like I could never imagine that kind of headache for an advisor.
*Not anything at the level of professional disciplinary stuff, just... reasons.

WWII and Japan came up on someone else's feed, but allow me to introduce you to one of the more interesting WWII spy stories related to Japan - the "Doll Lady" Velvalee Dickinson, who coded her snooping on shipyards as comments about doll collections.
