NEW: 11 reasons why (the Jim Comey indictment could get tossed out).

A judge found that Lindsey Halligan appeared to make "fundamental" misstatements of law to the grand jury. DOJ faces skepticism on many fronts. Also: More on Charlotte.

Increasingly convinced that the popularization of Gonzo journalism is on the net bad, mostly because everyone in the modern era doesn't have the depth and wit that made it work for Thompson and instead just projects their weird fetishes on the audience.

I'm enjoying Katabasis so far but my experience with Babel has me worried it will somehow turn into a series of manifestos by the end.

Man, Kuma really went dark and gritty after releasing this banger of a self intro a decade ago.

Orson Starr, trying to boost his employees’ productivity, was the first American to utter the phrase: “More cowbell.”
Orson Star (1803-1873)

Starr moved to Royal Oak, MI from Otsego County, NY in 1831, making him one of Royal Oak's first settlers. He manufactured cowbells by trade.

His son John Almon Starr, changed the family business to brick and tilework as cowbells became obsolete in the developing community.

Forbidden subgraph earrings - wear a theorem on your ears! Kuratowski's theorem says that a graph is planar if and only if it contains neither a K5 nor a K3,3 as a subgraph. Here are those two forbidden subgraphs.

When it's bed time and your otherwise sleepy time call in ghost story show opens with a bit about a dog collar ending up in a purse a week after it was put down for cancer... 😭

Actually what are the rules about keeping a bit of a stone wall from a monastery as a good luck charm? Because it feels like theft but it was just in the grass.
Also I do keep a bit of the stone wall from the Abbey at Gethesemane next to my Merton books so I can make it a two-fer if that's allowed.

Actually now I'm really curious if anyone has an estimate of this number.
There are, what, a couple hundred folks in the world at any time actually allowed to be in BSL-4? There are not that many people working with those things right?

Started "Bullet Train" as something not too heady to watch for the night and as Brad Pitt's character came on screen, a ladybug flew into the ceiling fan.

Honestly, amazing bit of synchronicity.

Kuang's Katabasis is a funny read when you're actually the kind of person that had the sense to change advisors in grad school because reasons*. Like I could never imagine that kind of headache for an advisor.

*Not anything at the level of professional disciplinary stuff, just... reasons.

Holy shit. They're really doing it. They're doing "actually pedophilia is good now." The debasement of the American Right is complete.

WWII and Japan came up on someone else's feed, but allow me to introduce you to one of the more interesting WWII spy stories related to Japan - the "Doll Lady" Velvalee Dickinson, who coded her snooping on shipyards as comments about doll collections.
Velvalee Dickinson, the “Doll Woman” | Federal Bureau of Investigation
A New York doll shop owner used correspondence to conceal details about U.S. naval forces she was attempting to convey to Japan in World War II.
